  • Cranks has a bike film festival on Friday. They're showing Belleville Rendezous (Triplets of Belleville) and others from 7pm. Think its 2 quid. May be down there to check it out.

  • Thats sounds cool, might try and wriggle out of prior commitments to make it. Are they showing other movies, do you have anymore info or anything online about the film festival or Cranks?

  • I'll I've got is a flyer that says the following:

    "Cranks Presents:

    Cinecycle - Bicycle Film Festival

    Belleville Rendezvous and more

    Friday 14th September 7pm

Cranks is a volunteer run DIY bicycle workshop open Friday and Saturday 11-6
Find us at 22 Chapel St, just off St James St.

    Entry to cinecyle 2 quid"

    Can't tell you anything else...

  • Cheers anyway, I live in that neck of the woods so I'll keep my eyes out for a flyer.

  • http://www.cranks.org.uk is their site but not much up there yet.

I might go check that film thing as well.

  • Yeah not exactly the most illuminating website in the world...

Might have to go to baker street from now on then, also loving the respect people have for our hill climbing prowess!

  • Kelvin also loving the respect people have for our hill climbing prowess!

I've always loved climbing hills. Particularly good in Brighton cos of the excellent views!

  • Elvis preston park is a nice track, more like a running track than a velodrome though! i went down most wednesdays this summer and the racing was excellent. most fixed riders there are just for the track though. but as pip says the fixies are around. i know a few of the buys you mention pip in passing but it's still a small scene i reckon. must admit, i kinda like it that way. as kelvin says, curse of the "white horror" hasn't hit us yet. all the hipsters in brighton ride shoppers :D

The hipsters wont take over Brighton as there are 2 things you need for riding a fix in this city that a hipster would never allow himself to be seen with.

    1. Dropbars for going up the hills.
    2. Front brake for going down the hills.
  • very true mate :)

although i did see the skinny jeans brigade looking at my ss the other day. i could see the cogs turning in their brains. they seem happy with their natty folding shoppers though. some of the bikes actually look quite cool. What am I saying!!

  • True, I've no problem with more people being interested in fixies aslong as its for the enjoyment of the cycling rather than just a hip accessory. It happened with skateboarding but the ones who didn't like falling over stopped soon enough. Same will happen with going up hills in Brighton on a fix, you've got to enjoy that perverse pleasure of reaching the top (especially now winters on its way)

  • if it's happening in london it can't be long before it reaches brighton!

  • Kelvin if it's happening in london it can't be long before it reaches brighton!

Sounds like a line from 28 Days Later!

  • we shall resist lads!

  • we shall fight them on the beaches etc...

  • kelvin, Rich, were either of you riding up southover street around midnight tonight??

  • nah was nicely tucked up in bed!

  • I never saw any fixed wheels when I lived in Brighton.
Was down there this weekend and saw a London Langster. What a hideous start.

  • It wasn't me, but funny that you mention Southover Street as I might be moving there and that is a serious hill, so fair play to whoever it was!

  • Object17 Was down there this weekend and saw a London Langster.

gasp! the guy i saw on the fuji was right at the top so fair play if he climbed it, one steep mother!

  • Wow! he must be running a low(ish) gearing or else he's got legs like the incredible hulk! All props to him.

  • yeah that's gotta be one of the stepest in central brighton

  • typical get the bus today and see two new fixies.

On lycra-ed up on a pista with bull horns and a bloke in flip flops on a pompino.

    Anyone we know?

  • nope. pista sounds like a preston parker mourning the end of the season??

any you brighton boys got a 17t 1/8 sprocket you want to sell. lbs taking too long. if not gonna have to hubjub it.

  • They don't sound familiar mate, did see a smartly dressed chap on a well worn On-one at the lights yesterday. Sorry I don't have a spare sprocket I've gotta get a new 17/18t myself. Ever used a Surly cog, I've heard good things?

  • i think EAI or phils are better (strictly speaking) but surly's should be fine. loads of people use them i think.
