i've recently arrived to london and am looking to buy a bike. i've gone around to a few recommended shops (bricklane bikes, brixton cycle, etc) but no one really has anything in my size. i'm a small girl - about 5'2" / 160cm. for example, i rode a 49cm lemond filmore and it was slightly too big for me (not comfortable to lean into the horns to reach the brakes).
basically what i'd like is a light-weight single speed (possibly with a flip-flop hub so i can try out fixed, though i haven't yet...), that i can use for riding on the road (so room for a mudflap would be handy). i've looked at a few other off-the-shelf bikes (heard nice things about the surly crosscheck, wasn't really thrilled by the specialized langster) but no one around has one i can ride. i've been leaning towards trying to build one up myself, but i'm a bit new to that. and also i haven't got an infinite budget. i'm happy to go with second-hand parts if it allows me to get something decent for 300-400. anyone have any tips on where to start looking for a frame that might fit me?
