alloy lockrings are ok but they do play a little and don't really last for more than a year. dure ace lockrings cost about a fiver and last for ages, you do the maths

I've got a dura-ace one and it's been fine. Just used a flat head screw driver and hammer to tighten it, after rotafixing the cog on.

Bon. Is rotafixing a flash way of saying "standing on the pedals really hard"?
-
• #5
not really, no

Nope. The turning force (moment) is much much greater with rotafix than standing on the pedals or using a chainwhip.

fc9k, what hub are you riding?
Campy lockrings are alloy. They work just fine. I used one for nearly two years on my work bike, the lockring lasted longer than the flange.btw... please do not try to put a dura ace lockring on a campy hub! Well, go ahead and try, bet you won't get far...

It's a "Zenith" (aka IRO, Formula, etc)

Stef you do the maths
I'm so glad you put an 's' on the end of that.

trampsparadise btw... please do not try to put a dura ace lockring on a campy hub! Well, go ahead and try, bet you won't get far...
sure fire way of turning your step-threaded hub into a suicide hub...
Felt my drivetrain slip slightly on a hill this morning, despite being convinced i'd already torqued it all down pretty nicely (only the third time out on the new wheel though). i know it could just be it bedding in a bit further, but i was wondering if there were any views on alloy lockrings and whether i should perhaps be looking to get a steel one instead?
