  • how do you take off the stem off a Fuji track bike?! there seems to be something unscrews at the top but then ???
    would this two be switchable?

thanks a lot in advance as usual :)

  • looks like you have a 'quill' stem - so they should be swappable.. if the diameter is identical.

sizesw are either 1inch or 1 1/8inch (others are rare)

1 - undo the allen key at the top of the stem
2 - give it a little tap down to ensure that the expander wedge is free.
3 - slide out the stem straight up- done!

  • This looks like an OK guide to fitting the new one..

Normally I would point you to the PARK tools website, but they don't bother with this particular job..

    Right - good deed done!

  • bla i undid the top bit - but this thing doesnt to come off!! tried to pull it apart with a bit of grunting LOL!! is that simple to remove it?!

    Yes !

Give it a twist to loosen it up a little bit.

  • if i twist it, the fork/wheel moves... do i need to hold them in place? hurts the legs!!! :(

Put the front wheel between your legs and give the handle bars a sharp twist left and right, this should come out with a little force.

  • Two types:

if it's an expander type; unscrew the top bolt til it's sticking out about 1cm, then wack it with a hammer (not too hard), that forces the expander out the bottom of the stem - you should now be able to remove it.

if it's a wedge type, then it may have become stuck in there (they should come loose straight away). Turn it upside-down spray some Plus gas, WD40, etc, leave it over night, then try again.

  • this stem is cursed!! its locked in real tight!! :( almost fell from twisting :O

  • FixAxioN all this for this stem/bars: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150156924872&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005

    what do u guys think?

    Very nice !

  • so come over my house and help me get this thing out LOL!! ive got becks in the fridge lol

  • FixAxioN this stem is cursed!! its locked in real tight!! :( almost fell from twisting :O

Do like Tris said, unscrew the bolt and when it is sticking around 1cm out of the top of the stem, give it a hit (downwards) with a hammer (or something like a rolling pin)

  • it looks like this now

i tried hitting it with rolling pin and twisting agian... nuttin

  • Did you hit the bolt (not the stem) ?

  • ROFL!! lemme get back to u!

  • dammit - no lcuk! i hit just below where the threads are!

  • Nah.. on the top of the stem.. not the headset!

  • FixAxioN please take a picture a bit wider, so we can show you where you should be hitting !

(it is on the very edge of both your pictures at the top)

  • you've unscrewed the locknut for the headset! use an allen key in the bolt at the very very very top of the stem! Good luck with getting that back together...

  • Should be hitting stem bolt.. not headset

  • having loosened it first of couse!

  • Take the cap off the top, undo, bang, twist

Where do you live? Somone save the bike!!! :)

  • ahhh!! i understand - lemme try again - just won the item LOL
