Had quite a few very expensive bikes stolen over the past 15 or so years :( - my best ever move was to get rid of my bike lock - I now never lock my bike up - I ride it to wherever I am going and take it inside, luckily for me in my line of work I can pretty much always take my bike indoors with me, so no worries in that respect, but I, as an experienced bike looser, appreciate your point.

Yes, I have ridden fixed.
I will be fine honest !
I am not a great fan of spending money on an intermediate bike, I would rather invest it all in something better, longer lasting and take my time getting used to it.
