2) good local bike shop is brick lane bikes, confusingly on bethnal green road but at the top of brick lane, so that's ok. they specialise in track and fixed wheel and are very friendly and quite funny, especially when not busy. when busy they can be a bit fraught. so can i.

Welcome back. I have to say bike shops here are s*** compared to the good shops in NYC/SF. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the fact that everything here is expensive doesn't help.
Brick Lane and Brixton are pretty decent shops and London Fields Cycles can be ok when its quiet (not for parts but for servicing).
There have been lots of threads on here about painting, try a quick search. Mario Vaz, Armotex etc can all turn frames around quickly and will do a reasonable job.
But do you get yourself down to Herne Hill at some point. Its a really nice accessible velodrome and the racing scene is decent.

OK so it's only fare i introduce my self before throwing out the questions.
my name is Matt ( As you can see By my incredibly creative user name ) i have been living and working in new york for the last seven years. this is where my love for fixed bike's came from.
1) any ways i have moved back to London and am crashing on a friends sofa i use to live in a great converted warehouse full of bike lads and am looking for something similar ( obviously not going to get a converted warehouse but throwing it out there any way ) am looking to live in central area shoreditch, old street, angel, highbury, spitalfields any of the above and around really. so if any one has a room for grabs please drop me a line.
2) use to have an amazing bike shop near me and have been to a few since i got back and to say the least are CRAP. so can you please recommend a good bike shop
3) my beautiful vintage frame has been a bit beaten on the travel back any one know a good frame painter who hasn't got a crazy long waiting list?
