Broken Bikes Suck

  • Having had my front wheel destroyed last weekend I've been cycling on my mountain bike all week.
Fat grippy tires and heavy small frames (Though thankfully rigid up-front) suck for riding around London.

Still I pick up the rebuilt front wheel on Monday so I shouldn't complain.

What's the longest you've been without your Fixed/Single-speed for? Did you suffer seperation anxiety too?

  • renan is close to suicide as we speak due to the crash he had last weekend

    I feel for him.
TBH I've used is as an excuse to give mine a full overhaul/service (But it's more than likely that it was more to console myself, rather than actually fix her).

  • Tell me about it. This happend to my Vivalo last year...

6 weeks I had to wait to get it fixed and resprayed

  • It looks like I might be riding for 9 months without my fixie.

My hall for uni doesn't have indoor bike storage and strictly won't allow bikes inside. Means I would have to leave it out overnight. Outdoor racks available though. It'll be in Hammersmith, not sure what crime is like round there (it's very near Charing Cross Hospital).

I'm considering getting a beater bike, or a massive, massive chain and another d-lock (which would mean 3 d locks and a chain overall).

  • a beater fix will do you good eeehhhh
build it up, ride it in some mud & gunk, dont clean it apart from the drivechain. unnickable :)

  • or a shopper!

At least you have a bike. I snapped my only frame in the middle of the hottest English summer on record. Fscking hell.. the Tube was sweatier than riding to work!!!!
It was this lack of bike though that prompted the purchase of the Raleigh so cloud lining silver and all.

Yeah, that's my plan. The tube everyday for 30 mins, no thanks. Plus I'd then have to go to a gym to stay in shape. Bike solves both.

I think I'll wait until I've moved to uni. That way I can siphon off funds from my loan without anyone going on about me "saving" money for when I move there.

  • just before you start you might be able to ask someone on this forum to borrow you a bike i'm sure, for a month until you finish your beater.

Any sensible cyclist has (at least) two bikes. (and a gun)

  • Yeah.. doesn't help when they're in another country though!
I have 5 in London now, 4 in Oz.. just in case. :P

  • 5?

    lol

I have loads in England but only 3 completes in Oz. But I have 4 spare frames and a few wheels and bits.

  • God that sounds sad.

all the spares live under the bed. That sounds even worse. lol.

  • I've got empty computer part boxes under mine.. that's worse!

  • i have a dead prostitute under mine.....

  • We've talked about this aidan! Shhhh!
