Black nitto bars

  • Anyone know if Nitto make their bars in black? I can't find much info with a bit of Googling.

    :)

  • You can get some of them in gunmetal. Which is almost, but not entirely unlike black.

  • The T19 is a bit too track for the bike, I'm after more roadie style.

mr_tom You can get some of them in gunmetal. Which is almost, but not entirely unlike black.

I quite like the sound of that.

  • Slightly off topic but I don't like creating new threads all the time.. :)

Bullhorns. What they like riding? Is it actually comfortable to ride with your hands on the horn bit?

  • i'm riding these nitto bullhorns and i think they're great.

was riding some flop and chop ones before and these are quite a bit better when out of the saddle as i can really lean forward. the only problem is climbing: the slighly slanted tops aren't too efficient.

  • Yeah they look quite cool. Any pics of them on your bike?

Again, the brake lever problems I've got to sort out comes into play here, as I've mentioned in another thread I've started.

  • i take it you are planning to ride them bare? if not then just slap on some black bar tape!
you could also buy some normal nitto's for cheap from that guy from japan on ebay and then get them to somewhere like armourtex and get them to paint them for you?

  • I wish it was that simple! I've got no where to put a cable hanger. Unless I go drilling the stem, which, well isn't great.

Edit: I'll email Bontrager and see what they say about drilling them. I've seen it done in Cycling Plus and Weekly but they've got massive budgets and I can't afford my stem to randomly fail on me.

  • eeehhhh: just back to the original post, have you had a look at these?

    black nittos

    they're road and black.

  • Yeah I'm watching them at the moment :)

  • I've got bars powdercoated black before and had them come out really nice, think I'd recommend powdercoat for bars over painting (stove enamelling) in my experience powdercoating gives you a more matt finish which wouldn't always be what you want on a frame but works well with bars, IMHO.

I use bull horns on my Langster (with barend levers) and find them really comfortable, I initially underestimated how much shorter a stem I'd need than with drops so was a bit stretched out, but once I sorted this out they were sweet. If you wanted some bullhorns to try out (if you're in London) I've got some spares you could borrow to try out and then we could sort out some kind of trade if you wanted to hold onto them, sorry not Nitto, they're either Bontrager or Outland, one sets bent, can't remember which, obviously I'd give you the unbent pair. Could provide these with the Paul Cross Lever if I can lay my hands on it, if not a bar end TT lever if you wanted.

Mid way through typing this my brother called, the Campagnolo V-brakes cost him £35 for the pair from Condor, he got the Veloces (because they were in silver) but apparently they also had the Mirages (which are black) and cost something like a tenner less. Realise this really belongs in another thread, but it's ballpark the same discussion. Having said all that V-brakes with bull horn bars feels somehow just a bitt odd to me.

  • That's very generous of you SMEEAR, good luck with the move.

  • Polybikeuser - I'm moving to London on 29th September (whey!) so it's quite a while away. I'll probably contact you around then about a trade (bike parts/beer/money) if I decide to go for them. About the Campag mirage brakes - I emailed Condor and they have them in stock! I'll give them ago, and they're £24.99 which isn't too bad. Black matches my frame. Cheers for your advice!

    he certainly does

Edit: Polybikeuser - so is your brother using the campag v brakes with normal road levers?
