Hand pump

  • can anyone recommend a good hand pump for chucking in the bag, that can pump up to 100psi+?

    cheers!

  • He he he... Hand pump..... he he

that does look good! does anyone have any experience in using one?

  • i've got a topeak pocket rocket and it's advertised to go to about 110psi. it's about £12.99 and pretty compact.

  • The Toppeak Morph series are the jam. Easily inflates to 100PSI, have a little stand and a flexible air cable (so they don't tear the value stems off). Used mine on multiple bike tours and its been great. Fixed many flats and never had a problem with it.

I have used many other cruddy mini-pumps and frankly haven't seen anything to beat 'em.

  • Blackburn are the best, chuck out the rest!

  • I have a pocket-rocket master-blaster. Mainly because of the name.

Its the only bike pump I have - takes a fair amount of effort but gets the tyres to a reasonable pressure. Probably not the best one on the market, in fact it may actually be the worst, but it has the best name and that's what matters to me.

  • Zefal HPX, all time best frame pump, comes in 4 different lengths, the shorter ones will fit in a bag.

  • Never failed me yet:

Any small pump is a lot of hard work to get to 100psi+, so unless you want a giant frame pump, this is the answer. Plus a bit of muscle.

(I'm very unmuscle-y and I find it alright!)

  • I have a Topeak Road Morph for my OTHER bike, but when I'm in FGSS-compatible bike I carry a Topeak Pocket Rocket Master Blaster.

  • I've got one of the original cyclaires and while it seems like a brilliant idea in use I've found it to be a complete pain and never got a tyre above 80 odd psi with it, and that took for ever. I now keep it at work to led to people who "desperately" need a pump, on the understanding that's its a real dog to use, I'd avoid it, but maybe the newer ones are better. For emergencies I carry a blackburn airstick, which I really rate. Another I'd avoid is the Topeak Micro Rocket, a friend got one and it's lovely and small and a great piece of bike jewelry but one shite pump.

  • I've had a blackburn airstick for a while and it's ok. Recently got the Topeak Road Morph and it's a league apart. Much easier to use and gets to proper pressure. It is much better than the Airstick, and the Airstick in turn is better than most pumps of that kind.

Ironically I've had loads more punctures since I got the road morph (not cos of the pump) and so have had a really good chance to test it!

thats a shame, i really like the idea.

  • I found a blackburn in the road about six (four as a full-time courier) years ago.....it's excellent, goes well over 100psi....never needed to replace it so can't comment on others.

  • i got the topeak morph (i dont understand whether it is road or mini or mtb or what) recently and its been great.

  • It's the 'recently' that's the catch. Most pumps when they're new will seem great. Once you've done 10,000k with it strapped to your seat-tube, that's when you see if it's a good pump or not. My Blackburn is at least 7yrs old and still gets me out of sh1t. It needs a bit of grease on the rubber (I'll get around to it one day) and it doesn't have the funky snap closure bollox that newer pumps do, but that's half the point. Less is more! You don't want to be out in the middle of nowwhere (unlikely since most of you are locked into London it seems.. Cambridge ride anyone? :P) and find your pump doesn't work. Avoid the telescopic/double tubed ones - the inner part is weak as piss and the seals (ow ow) go very quickly. I bought another Blackburn to attach to the roadie. Not used yet. Will rate it for yaz in 5 years time.
More info, see my comment above.
