  • what kinda machine is it...?

  • pip All I have to say is:

This was taken in San Francisco so you can view it as SF's response to 'SF Style'.

excellent pip. hippy's right, we need this as a sticker!

  • for me it'd have to be a rear one as i saw on some forums that since they are so rigid when u take a good turn they can flank on you!

and if this happens to ur back wheel u'll know it right when it starts rather than when u r on the floor eating concrete lol

  • There is a reason everyone in "San Fran" has Aerospokes on the front, and it's mainly because they are strong... Thats why I decided to get/try one out... They do look good and thats an added bonus. Someone said that they are not functional... I say thats a load of crap, the wheel goes round, stays true for longer/requires less hassle, you can make it any color you like and you don't need rimtape... oh and it's aerodynamic so I can now go supersonic, if I wanted too. What more do I want from a wheel? Fuck all. Don't knock it till you've tried it! But if you've got restless fingers knock it all you like... just don't bother trying it after. Cos that would be a hell of a waste of time.

    Kind regard's

and thanks for the compliment on my bike, I've been putting it together for a year now and I think it's nearly finished!

  • ahh potato's!

They are heavy, but they feel solid! Haven't had any problems so far and I have been knocking them about as much as I can. Since I have such a light gear, skidding has not been a problem and with a rear heavy setup it makes it far more easier to control wheelies as demonstrated.

We might be behind in the SF scene over here in London, mainly due to the fact that aerospokes are bloody made in the US so of course they are all rocking them as they are so readily available. Furthermore if so many riders have them, they can't be at all bad. We would only have to pay the extra shipping and tax so they don't work out outrageously expensive.

Those interested, the waiting list is 3 months, Bill at aerospoke handles international orders and they said they are having difficult keeping up with orders on 700c clinchers front and rear.

  • No... pot a toss

  • indeed!....tousands and tousands of potatoss!

  • Not more pics of you doing wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelies!!

  • andypancake and dexterfletcher: how much do you weigh?

The issue I have with aerospokes (other than cost) is durability under a big lad and, probably more of an issue, is repairability (or lack of it).
Say I fold one of my wheels. Out comes the spoke key and wahey! good as new (yeah depends on extent of damage but you get the idea, even if the rim is fscked you can salvage the hub). There's no repairing a trashed aerospoke afaik. Personally I'd love a HED3 for the Soma, for pure pose value. :)

  • scott not scot i'm just funkin with ya peter....if ya got the cash...it's good to splash....i've done it on many occassions!..:)

nay bother hen. Sadly intonation can be lost in these dialogues and therefore open to mis-interpretation.
cant afford at mo but oneday...soon they will be mine.

  • a mate is selling a pair of hed-3 tubs (rear cassette :( ), lot of notes though ~£900. tried the front on me bike, was very solid and trey cool!

they both aren't the pink shirt wearing big lad like you hippy...
HED3 is much lighter (less composite) and my guess is it'll fail more readily under a big bloke than an aerospoke.

to be honest, by the end of the day it's all about what fits you anyway, some people write off campag cranks because they have a 80kg rider limit but i guess it's sour grapes.

  • yup but dont sound it any more...you?

  • I always wondered about your username. Hows the scene in lockerbie doing?

  • maybe you should get yourself some aerospokes to get more lockerbie hipsters on board?
    ;)

  • when you moving to london?

  • Conan i went into cavendish cycles a few weeks ago and there was a track bike hangin from the ceiling with a white front aerospoke. Dunno if it was for sale, give em a call.

I was in there yesterday, the bike with the white front aerospoke is a staff bike.

They are cheaper from the HED website ?!

A brand new 700c wheel set (clincher or tubular) comes out at around £745 G.B.P, even with another £50 (a guess) for an express delivery they are still cheaper !

  • well you'd also have to pay at least 17.5% vat and maybe 10% import tax..

  • unxetas well you'd also have to pay at least 17.5% vat and maybe 10% import tax..

Not if they are labeled 'sample' and have a value of $0/£0 scribbled on the delivery note !

(I have been asking people in the US to mark my purchases up like that for years ! - some oblige, others are less willing)

Still, even with the various taxes and delivery charge the price of a brand new set of Hed 3's is pretty close to this fellas set at £900. I would buy secondhand steel, secondhand alloy, but not secondhand carbon, it is just too hard to know the provenance, problems can remain pretty much hidden in carbon until total failure.

    £450 and we'll talk ;)
