Bike for a month?

Posted on
  • Hello London!

Just arrived here for a project and will be staying for a month. Am addicted to riding, but could not bring my own bike. Seeing all you out on the street just gets my blood going and I can't believe I'm stuck with the tube and walking all the time. was wondering whether anyone here would have a bike available to lend or a cheap one to sell. i'm 6'2" and don't need brakes (but will gladly take any wheels). will return the favor for anyone visiting LA

these are my bikes back home (the affinity frame is fresh from nyc -- i love it)

my first conversion -- el toro

any leads would be much appreciated -- many thanks

  • I can't help, wish I could.

But it does remind me that a cheap fixed gear bike hire is still a bloody good idea.

  • im after a ss/fg bike as well (though for longer than a month hopefully). 5'10". where's the best place to trawl for purchasing? ive been hunting on gumtree and ebay with little joy. i dont really feel confident enough to build one myself, and dont really want to spunk £500 on a new machine that has little character.

btw, your two bikes are amazing

  • hardhat check that londonfixedgear thing.. sound really good, I probably would've bought a bike from them if I had heard about it before I bought my fuji.

  • I've got a very old kona cindercone, 15 yrs old at last count still got the original thumbshifters, its just sitting dirty and unloved on my balcony until I can a) sell it (fat chance methinks) b) give it away to a friend or c) give to charity, there's a charity called recycle which services bikes and sends them off to africa, so I'm thinking of being all altruistic.
bike fit me and I'm 5' 10"/ 5' 11", and it was too long for me.
I'm SW. don't have any pics of the bike, be ashamed to take photos of it in its current dilapidated state. Might need a bit of a clean and lube. but apart from that its in running condition.

  • I am just turning an abandoned Trek 950 from 89 into a SS - I think you'll get a few notes on ebay if you tidy it up? That all white conversion is lush, kind of thing I would like - but the SS will have to do for now.

  • kiwicycles.com can sometimes be good for cheap conversions

  • i got a raleigh single speed i can loan front brake only goes ok
    it'll get you around

  • hi dicki,
thanks for your offer! i'll take you up on it!

  • unxetas hardhat check that londonfixedgear thing.. sound really good, I probably would've bought a bike from them if I had heard about it before I bought my fuji.

  • thanks guys! especially dicki!! it's great to be on wheels here -- and particularly getting to know london from a different vantage point. cheers!

  • got back to work ok yesterday ? did you find the greenway ?
are you gonna commute to work daily ? the journey you do must be a real pain on the tube / train you could probably cut 1/2 - 1 hr from your journey on the bike
how are you finding it got used to the wobbly-ness ?

  • got back without a problem. found the greenway all right, and am getting used to the wobbles/lots of spinning -- but the best is the big smile on my face just cruising down in the sunshine!

  • cool glad to hear it i think it is a decent bike once you get used to it and ride it more continuously
    weathers got good again
    critical mass this friday
    bike polo this sunday
will you be coming along to either ?

  • bike polo on sunday sounds great. when and where does the magic happen ?

  • check the places tab on the top of the screen there will be a map of the location
corner of brick lane and shackwell street 2pm onwards it says 1 but we are working on greenwich mean sunday time i.e an hour later than usual !
