Global warming creates more extreme weather due to the warming. It doesn't promise tropics, it promises shifts in the gulf and jet stream and wilder fluctuations of weather.
It's exactly what we're experiencing.
-
• #5
so we'll be under water soon
-
• #6
i also find that the global is warming my arse
-
• #7
how do they differentiate between warming due to natural trends and cycles and warming due to man made activity
I mean I all for renewable resources, protecting the environment, energy saving and wot not, basically because it makes common sense
but man made Global Warming in many circles is taken as a 'given' and I ain't all that sure that it has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt
I mean you watch Al Gore's inconvenient truth and you got to be honest
there is considerable amount of bullshit in that movie
So you do start to wonder

well it's stopped raining here in geordieland
the wife wants me to make a curry or should I go out on the bike..... hmmm bit of a no brainer !!

Yeah, well have you read the IPCC reports? Full of shit. What the f*** do they know. all those scientists?
They didn't even vote, they used consensus!
What kind of democracy is that?

I can't tell if Bill is being serious or sarcastic, but I'll take it to be the latter.
the-smiling-buddha how do they differentiate between warming due to natural trends and cycles and warming due to man made activity
To put it briefly, you look at the cycles and trends in the past through rocks, ice samples and whatnot and then using these and climate models (which are extraordinarily accurate) on supercomputers you can see what the Earth 'should' be doing and what is actually happening.
Some people claim that the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is too small to be of any significance, and therefore we can't be causing global warming. This is an incorrect assumption. For example, if I were to inject a very small and "insignificant" amount of lead or benzene into your bloodstream the consequences would be disastrous for you, i.e. you would die.

What evidence do you have to lead you to believe that global warming is not proven beyond any reasonable doubt?
The next point made by people who also say that is that global warming is only supported because scientists would be out of a job if it wasn't happening, and that they need money for their research so they make everything seem worse. This is a tragic line of argument, known as the ad hominem fallacy. It's Latin for "to the man" and means that the critic is arguing against the person rather than the person's argument. Usually this is done because the critic doesn't actually have a decent point against the argument!

nor_feest dunno about where you all live but up here in newcastle its raining has been all bloody summer, infact the weather is so shite today its like october, it's even cold and windy !
You are a moron.

What do you think ?
An admitted lack knowledge on a subject you wish to question is a poor start to any argument.

Argument from ignorance + ad hominem.
I would accuse you of presenting a poor argument, but this is the wrong kind of forum for that kind of thing and you have not presented an argument.

Firstly before I put my foot in my mouth (and then out my arse and back around into my mouth again) I will presume your post is serious.
So. . . . .
You would appear to know very little about what global warming is, if fact it seems you only know the term and not what the implications are.

come on guys, I think he was joking, or at least being intentionally incredulous.

RPM come on guys, I think he was joking, or at least being intentionally incredulous.
If you refer to 'nor_feest:' you are probably right, hence my proviso.
If you refer to 'the-smiling-buddha' I am not so sure (I am sure he can clarify) - but it does sound like the typical argument from ignorance.

heh.. I've seen this happen in many other forums, and.. it won't get us nowhere! I'm all for educating the masses, but for the greater good here that is keeping everyone riding their bikes as a happy family, I'd suggest sticking to bike related shit or at least avoiding politics and touchy subjects..
OR at the least, if you know you feel strongly about something, make an effort to not come out attacking anyone who has a different opinion.. pretty please? :)

I didn't present an argument
I simply asked a question
and now I am going to ask another one
How accurate are our climate models?
Only if our climate models are 100% accurate
Will we know for sure what will happen in the future
if however there is any inaccuracy in our models
then we can only state a probability, say an 80% chance of such and such happening
Well according to the IPCC we don't even know with any certainty
the accuracy or inaccuracy of our climate models
So we can't even state a probability of what we think might happen
Instead what the IPCC gives to use
Is best case and worst case scenarios
Well the very worst scenario for the 21st century
gives a sea level rise of about 2ft
and if you remember the 'inconvenient truth’
Al Gore talks about sea level rises of about 20 ft
So ipso facto either Al Gore hasn’t read the lastest from the IPCC
or he is talking utter BOLLOX
When people start speaking bollox to me
I start asking questions
dunno about where you all live but up here in newcastle its raining has been all bloody summer, infact the weather is so shite today its like october, it's even cold and windy !
roll on tuesday, Ibiza here I come .
