• it's a great idea.

my only suggestion is to make it the 2nd or 3rd sunday of the month, because whenever people choose the nth x of the month, they tend to pick the first or the last, which means that some people (eg me) already have something happening on the first sunday - i have a folk music session that I promised to make more of an effort to go to and i'd hate to have to choose and miss one or the other each month. Also, the 2nd sunday would be half-way between critical masses .. which is .. good .. I suppose ..

That's a good point.

I'd seriously consider making it the 2nd Sunday.

Anyhow, I'll ride around Hyde Park this evening scouting pubs. My bet is that there will be something just near the Kensington or Notting Hill corners that would be perfect.

• Isn't that Freecycle Day on a Sunday too.
Could be another good opportunity to get a mass together?

• The London freewheel event you mean? Rather unfortunately named. And it's sponsored by Hovis Brown. Traitor! :)

• haha.. I have a feeling I'll enjoy that day though, no cars.. aaaaaaah.. Although in Portugal they allowed buses and taxis, so.. the ones out there to kill you will still be driving.

• big group thing on the no car day would be jokes...if we sort one of those out im down fo'sho

• what the fuck are those, Tommy?!

stickers for that freewheel thing?

some of the marketing surrounding that is bizzare

• Apologies in advance for straying from the topic slightly...Im new to London, suffering badly from the withdrawal symptoms of leaving my bike at home (Sydney), and I need a FIX. Would love to join your Sunday bunch, but as for a bike, would any of you rate Condor's Potenza as a weapon of choice (my budget is around £1000).

first london. then the WORLD. MUWAHAHAHAHAHA.

• I found this pub:
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/87/875/Greyhound/Kensington

Here:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=W8+5EP&spn=0.005,0.02&hl=en

It's called The Greyhound.

And basically is just off of High St Kensington (opposite Zara, down the side of Barkers).

The pub is large, and the railings on Kensington Sq and the house opposite can hold many a bike.

It's closeness to the South West corner of Hyde Park make if really easy to find too.

• the black widow - a grand will get you a very smart fixie. in fact it could get you a custom-built one to your exacting demands!

• TheBrick(Tommy)

heh heh "west end bum bandits" hee hee hee

• East Bell-End Angels

You're not the typical Aussie then.. dossing on mate's couches whilst cursing Tube costs and scrimping just to buy cheap tinnies..

• ...Hippy, Aussies and couches, yes, Aussies and tube costs, sometimes, Aussies and tinnies, on the mark...but pink shirts are a no no, thats fo sho...

• Is that actually hippy?

• Yeah.

He has pink shirts.

AND he tucks them into the waist like that.

Sickening isn't it?

• Ha ha ha ha ha

looking goooooooooood

• I've updated the first post with the current thinking.

I'm considering the start and end locations as fixed. It's just the route to be finalised and the time to be set.

The start time should allow 30 minutes pissing around (as is our wont) and to arrive at the end 30 minutes before official Polo start time.

We should perhaps find time to ride the route and look at the city bit to see if it's cool (landmark, scenery wise, as well as whether the route works well when riding it).

The general gist is that this would be the same ride each time, really social, start at a pub, end with Polo, welcoming and inclusive, pretty easy for everyone, but still interesting for old timers. A social thing :)

• The route someone posted earlier is roughly parallel with my ride home from work, so I'll see if I can scoot down it one evening after work.

• David K
jonnywilkinson hup Highgate Hill West

A big part of the ride is to welcome people new to fixed riding. That's quite a welcome! Bear in mind that this might be their first time fixed, they might be nervous and with a really terrible gear. The ride should be easy and social... we should be able to talk and have a laugh whilst riding around before finally settling at the polo fields to chat some more.
What about if it'll be our first real test of our bike? (incl. first ever real ride on a fixie)

• asm Is that actually hippy?

No, it's my sister.

• don't be embarassed hippy, remember

• Is "tough guy" some kinda ghey cruising slang? :P
