Mine name comes from having really thick hair.
When I was ten I was playing football with these older lads on the school field near my house. I used to have really blonde hair when I was little but by this point it had gone a murky pond blond, more of a light brown. When I was even younger I had found some clippers while rummaging round my house and had proceeded to cut chunks of my hair out, right down to the scalp. My mum had to shave my head and my hair never grew back the same after that. It stands out straight like I've just been electrocuted, and will not be tamed no matter what I try.
The kids I was playing football with thought my long, brush like, hair looked like the buffing brushes they used at secondary school to buff plastic, as well as being buff coloured, and buffed up. So they called me Buff for the rest of the game, and it stuck. I've been called Buff by everyone I know since.
Unsurprisingly the name is taken on most sites, so I just use ffub instead, a more familiar name used by some of my closer friends.
