• Yeah, something very much like that.

What are the landmarks we should swing by?

  • St Pauls, and Bank go nicely together, I like the tunnel bit I think is on London Wall, (you always see The BIll using it in a car chase), Piccadilly / Oxfrd Cicus (spell soory), maybe take in the Mall as well at the start forgot about that.

  • The royal exchange, the gherkin. If we're starting near Hyde park, through the back streets of Mayfair is nice. St Paul's.

  • The tunnel is on London Wall.

  • love the section next the barbican along the london wall also the tunnel that is beech street?? is this what your refering to?
Hopefully ill get my frame back from repsray by then and join yous on this one. Nice and easy to break myselff in to fully fixed.

  • Smithfield is nice and spacious. Finsbury circus and square would be good too.

  • I'm in for this, but please not too early on a Sunday.

Have you any idea how much beer there is in London on a Saturday night? Somebody has to try to drink it all.

There's a pub in the middle of Victoria Park called the Royal Inn on the Park, really nice Sunday lunch (a bit spendy though) and there's places to leave our bikes. It's about a five minute ride from Brick Lane, so we could head there after polo? Just an idea.

  • How about this?

  • When does bike polo start? When are you thinking of setting off?

Sounds like an ace idea, I'm deffo interested.

  • Samsonite

Oh you can't do a list... this is EVERY month. Unless of course, you're committing yourself to come along every month.

  • good idea DK.

I'll be up for some of them, but I would emphatically say fuck highgate, hampstead or any other hill beginning with h on a sunday.

I'm trying to encourage some of my bike-owning-but-not-riding friends to get out and ride, this might be a good opportunity
I don't care about the type of bike really, I only ride fixed cos I can't afford gears

  • RPM , I only ride fixed cos I can't afford gears

Ha! you and I both know riding fixed ends up far more expensive in the long run :)

  • sshhhh!

  • i like the idea of keeping it inclusive - encourage friends to get back on those bikes that sit gathering dust....who knows, they might even see the fixed light!

  • theres a nice cafe at the easterly end of the serpentine that would be a nice scenic meet point, or maybe the Albert Memorial...but that might be a little to far into the discomfort zone for some easties?

    Start time?

9am (this is not a list SMEEAR)

  • kipsy theres a nice cafe at the easterly end of the serpentine that would be a nice scenic meet point, or maybe the Albert Memorial...but that might be a little to far into the discomfort zone for some easties?

I think the meeting place should be something that works in January and February too. So standing around outside isn't as cool as somewhere you could get inside and have a quick whiskey.

As for start time, if we aim to get to polo when that's roughly starting, and we predict that we'll be slow and un-organised with lots of chatting and taking our time. Then after noon seems a good slot... is midday too early?

  • I like the sound of this, been meaning to come say hi at polo too.
What about meeting under the middle of Smithfields?
Or in good weather Paternoster Square?

  • meet west.....

  • Yup.

If we're ending slightly East. And we want to show some sights and pass through the City. Then we start slightly West.

If we want new riders and riders who may be new to the city (visitors from the US for example), we should pick a meeting place that is so god damn big that it is a magnet for even those who don't know the roads.

Hence my suggesting somewhere around Hyde Park, everyone can find Hyde Park.

Unfortunately there's few pubs that spring to mind... The Swan next to Lancaster Gate station? Something on High Street Kensington?

Suggestions for a really obvious meeting point that is in the vicinity of Hyde Park (a few streets off is fine as long as it's obvious) would be welcome.

  • The only pub I know in that area is the not-so-hot Black Lion on Bayswater Rd.

  • Paddington Basin is a good meeting point of a Sunday morn.

Yer can chill by the canal, and there's tons of space to park up.

And it's totally off-road so yer can goon about if you want.

There's a bar, coffee place and a Subway ie loads of seating.

Then swing down Edgware Rd to Hyde Park etc.

  • there's the Rolling Bridge there too.
Yet to see it in action
