My opinion (shuddup - you knew it was coming) is thus:
I don't like an idea so proprietory, ie. if LEVEL goes bust, where do you get cogs from?
On the other hand, they are kinda cool. :)

i talked to will at hubjub about these, i was thinking about getting some,
and i too had the same worrieswill assured me that if level ever go bust they will hand out the CNC patterns so someone else can make them
allthough that would cost a lot more,i dont think they will go bust anytime soon , everything i have heard about the hubs tells me they are 1st class
plus they look like raw sex

They also have a 45mm chainline, which puts me straight off.
I think the front hubs are pretty decent. Keep meaning to pick one up.
But like most folks, I'm not a huge fan of using a proprietary cog system on the rears - its just too limiting - and once I learned how to install a cog properly, I've haven't stripped the threads on a hub, so it doesn't solve any problems for me.
[now I've jinxed myself]

I too was worried about the proprietory nature of the product, having delt with many such oddities in the past (i hate french threaded bottom brackets), but all the reading i have done makes it look like level can only get bigger and, that they have a well though-out contingency plan in such case that they go bust. they are beautiful, I am still not sure that they are the logical choice over phil wood- tried and true.

I think they are a bit overbuilt (massive and heavy) for road use, but would be great for fixed mtn bike use. I think that the proprietary system is a pain - sure Level will hand out the patterns but why would anyone spend time machining cogs when Level couldn't make a business out of it?

just buy a MTB disc front hub and drill an old cog on, whoala!!

I had a pair of these on my off-road fixie:
They were gorgeous, but let down by a lack of support - they had been promising a freewheel for their proprietory cog fixing, but it never materialised...
Without the option of singlespeed, I decided that riding fixie off-road was for someone with bigger nadgers than me so I sold them on.

Don't Londonfixiebike make them for their Shimano conversion hubs?
-
• #10
yes but they take a 6 hole cog for fitting onto standard disk hubs
-
• #11
But if they're six holes evenly spaced they should fit to a hub which has three holes evenly spaced...no? Someone should inspect this!!

• #12
Actually what am I talking about...apologies for lack of thought in last post
-
• #13
this is true...

• #14
...Or would it...someone else reply quick...I'm rambling...

• #15
It would wouldn't it...

Different BCD.

• #17
That's all you need to know.

Just by ten cogs with the hub.
You can sell them later if the company goes bust. -
• #19
At 24.50 a go that's a fair chunk of coinage.
-
• #20
He can corner the market later though.

• #21
Only if Level go bust.
-
• #22
LeveL seem safe enough no?
-
• #23
So did the Cain's brewary.
-
• #24
Right...I'll take that as point in hand as I've no idea what you're talking about..anyonoe know what's happening with Gan Well Pro since Kazushi Doi died?? Similar topic or shall I just start a new thread?

Level are about to announce huge sub-prime losses. Get those cogs before the news breaks.
I was looking at the level hubs and wonder if anyone has riden them or has an opinion?
