Chaintug for Goldtec hub

  • I can't get the tension right on my goldtec hub - it just keeps moving in the dropouts and I don't want to whack the torque up so high to break the dropouts or the hub.

So, a chain tug seems to be the answer. I have unusual dropouts, however.

Any recommendations? Or just get a bit of pipe on the end of the allen key and just go crazy?

  • goldtec hubs have a 12mm axle, which is flattened top and bottom to stop the axle rotating in the drop outs when tightening, i used a mks, but had to put it on the outside of the frame............so it is pulling on the bolt. works ok.

  • or buy a file and file out an elogated hole.

  • Hmm.

Does anyone have one of these? I could do with knowing the dimensions of the inside (where the head of the bolt would sit) that is lower than the edges of the tug, 'cause the bolts on the goldtec have these plastic thingies which make them quite large.

I wish I had a local bike shop that sold fixie related stuff :(

  • plastic???? they are aliminium

2nd a lbs which deals with fixed stuff.

  • Aluminium - really? They felt waaaaaay to light to be metal. I did only look briefly.

  • defo aluminium, scratched mine, and the metal is showing through

  • Yeah, they are. Just had a look at mine.

Surely there must be someone that has got a Surly tuggnut on here...?

  • eeehhhh Surely there must be someone that has got a Surly tuggnut on here...?

yep, i'd like to see the reverse as well. thinking about fitting one to semi-horizontal campag style dropouts.

  • I've emailed Will at Hubjub and am in the process of emailing back and forth, but it looks like I'll get one. I'll post pics before I fit it.

You'd think Surly would supply images of the other side....
