New old bike (still converting)

  • recently bought this bike from ebay (old ebay pictures will update soon)

the frame is a late 80's peugeot carbolite 103 frame. 7 gears (2 front, 5 back).
im enjoying the bike at the moment but ultimatly want to ride fixed. but im still nervous about buying parts without proper knowledge of exactly what i need. the idea i have at the moment was to buy a fixed gear rear wheel from ebay (ive seen a few) and then buy cranks from hubjub.

once i have more pics itll probably be easier for y'all to see what i need. recently bought this bike from ebay (old ebay pictures will update soon)

  • *10 speed i mean

    also frame size is 60cm

  • Things you will need:
    Fixed rear wheel
a flip flop wheel will allow you to run both fixed and freewheel.
    A sproket
The number of teeth on this in relation to your front chainring will dictate how hard (or easy it is for you to pedal) If the bike is functioning now you should try to find out what gear you like and then replicate it when you go fixed.
    Pedal straps
Attaching your feet to the pedal is essential if you are a beginner. It makes braking easier and prevents your feet being flung of the pedal if you forgot that you cannot coast.

Thts about it really. You may be able to keep the cranks you have if the chain alignment is ok.

  • Pay particular note to pedal straps/clips/SPDs etc. Falling off hurts!

  • What is Carbolite?!

  • its the name in it.......wake up at the back!

  • of course!

  • runcible rakan
    What is Carbolite?!

    Hi-tension steel

  • hello everyone again. after counting some teeth my preferred gearing is 43 x 14

the bike luckily came with toe clips

a nice little brucey bonus there.

also here is a pic of the dropouts if it helps with anything

  • It has a 43T chainring??

  • yeah, im sure i counted it right. may be 44T

  • aarrrg, ill go count it again

  • 44t

  • hehe glad i could annoy.. i mean.. help ;-)

  • haaaaaa

  • Tommy you should knock up a few dozen of your conversion-chain-tugs and sell them for a tenner.
The amount of conversions being done here.. and reading about peoples chains slipping = market.
