jonaent (Jon) eeehhhh - did I just see u in Brick Lane Bikes, buying a PAC? I was also wearing a green t-shirt..... working at the counter with a Crumpler bag which was dismissed in favour of a Pac! :-)
If not, someone with exactly the same thoughts on PAC or Chrome was in there just now!
Yes! I was with my mate and his girlfriend. Haha, he did seem a bit disheartened that he was sort of laughed at for having a Crumpler! :) I don't remember seeing you, to be honest. I was kind of focused on thinking: "shit, this is a lot of money!"
So, yeah - I bought a PAC Street Large. Walking about London for the rest of the day at the Natural History Museum and V&A I was a bit concerned as I couldn't get it as comfy as I wanted, but I adjusted the strap a bit when I got back to Basingstoke and I'm very pleased indeed. I didn't need the Deluxe, plus the price tag was enourmous.
I chose the large, even though the medium would have got all my stuff in the majority of the time, I figured that the times I actually want to carry more than usual I'll kick myself for buying the medium. Was quite expensive too, and it probably would have been a tiny bit cheaper to import but I didn't want to have to deal with the customs people, and I really could not wait another day.
It is huge, by the way.
Edit: I just reread your post - where you the guy with the crumpler? Or am I just really confused?
I'll post a review after a week or so of using it. First impressions are very good though.

I've got the first working prototype he made and after nearly a year it's holding up perfectly. He's made a few adjustments in the design and I would now rate the bags top-notch, definitely better than any chrome (which I'm guessing is at his pricepoint).
Now if only he would do the cross-strap... -

Haha, yeah. When I first coined the name I must have only been 12 years old or so. I remember just sitting at the registration page for hotmail and thinking "eeeeeeeehhhhhhhhh" because I had to come up with a username, so I just chose eeehhhh. It's more of a "errrrhhhh" than and "aaaeeehhh". :) I sound crazy.

Yeah, I know. I should have imported but I'm impatient and wanted to see one in real life first. I wanted to get some extra bike stuff as well but I'll wait a bit now.

'brave'As in, "You must be very brave, if I had a disability I'd be crushed by my own cowardice and would have to commit suicide".

I had a quick look at a Project Tortoise bag at the weekend. They look nice. Very nice. I hope to give one a proper going over soon. To be honest I would be amazed if the maker is seriously trying to make them for the same money as Chrome. The bag I saw was a lot nicer than a Chrome, lot more functional and had that 'hangs right' look that can be seen with Pac, Zo and Cocotte.
Looks like a proper 4th generation design.
Timbuk2? Made in China.

I've been riding another prototype project tortoise bag for about six months. The design and build quality is amazing and it's the most comfortable bag I have owned (compared to T2, Bagaboo and Reload).

yeah my mate got a really cheap timbuk2 from china actually!
the project tortoise bag sounds interesting, where can i find more info about it and get one made?

I shattered my collarbone and so wanted a right shoulder bag for a year until they take the plate out. Asked for a reversible strap so i could swith back to left once that had been done, but actually got used to a right shoulder bag in about 2 days! I think the system is similar to bailey works but haven't seen one of those in the flesh so not sure.
Yasu did a great job of designing and making the bag, although he said it was loads more work than the standard design so he wasn't that keen on repeating the experience!

I'd rather pay that and have it last ages than pay a £100 every year to 18 months because it's knackered.
Riding today I found it pretty comfy, need to adjust the strap a bit more still and load it up better but it's ace. The more horizontal your torso is the comfier I've found it, too.

good for you. I'm glad you will be glad for buying it. seriously it is an investment but it will last you a while. I've heard from many that their bags lasting 5+ yrs easily and still going strong (and that's with heavy messengering mind you). its not stupid to pay for quality. along with it your buying durability and comfort (both of which are top needs for ppl who use their bag). Chrome is a great bag but still its functions lack compared to a pac.

I agree that you should try each one, especially as which-ever you choose is going to seperate you from a considerable sum of money.
how much are chrome and pac respectively?
Do you really need the Kremlin? It is massive! You can get the metropolis for £100. PAC's cost ALOT!
