Kiwi Cycles?

  • Hi, not long been on the forum but I've been riding fixed for a while. I'm in the middle of converting my old man's Raleigh Corsa. I've got some parts: Rear wheel, sprocket and chain. Now I need to address the crankset. I was thinking of taking it over to Kiwi cycles to get a cartridge BB and see if I can use the existing cranks. Or maybe Brick Lane. Just wondering if people had any suggestions. I'd like to do it myself but that means buying all the tools and I have no space in my tiny flat.

  • Bottom bracket tool will cost you £5-9
Crank puller £9-13 (can be used for putting on cranks)
it's all you need, it's a very easy thing to do

What cranks do you have and whats the rear hub?

  • The cranks are shimanos, 2 chainrings. They're 170mm but they don't have any other numbers or names on them.
The rear hub is just an ambrosia double fixed, 120mm. I'm just slightly worried about getting the correct chainline really.

  • it's 99% chance then that a 107mm bottom bracket give you the correct chain line
for that set up. with the ring on the outside.

  • Excellent, I'll give it a go myself. Cheers for the advice.

couldn't find another thread about kiwi cycles on here so thought this one would do.
Whats the craic with kiwicycles. Does he run a shop or does he work from home?
Tried emailing him the last week with some queries on parts and builds etc and as yet no response.
Just wondering if this is usually the case and is it just better to get on the blower or go round?

  • sorry to drag this up again but i was about to ask the same as PeterD ^^^

Can you drop into Kiwi or is it mail order??

  • yeah you can drop in - he's usually open till 6 or 7 I think. Or just give him a call.

  • He's a lovely fella...

  • paul, kiwi cycles, has a workshop in hackney...well, from last i heard of him couple of months ago. bit difficult to get hold of him, as his mobile's got no access from the workshop which is a basement of the building. but i found that he's pretty good with emails as i was getting instant replies. if he's not replying, maybe he's away? he does some bike museum stuff somewhere in the continent i think

  • cheers guys. i'll email him first and see what he says.

  • Open from 9:00 to 19:00 week days and 10:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays.

    he's away this weekend
