About 2 months ago, my old mountain bike, which i was quite attached to, got nicked when i forgot about it and left it round the corner, outside a shop, not locked up. ( yes, i know, what can i expect). I was quite gutted about it, as it was nice to ride to the pub and to the shops.
Today, i was riding to Richmond park on my new bike, and i saw my old bike leaned up against a phone box. There was a bloke in the phone box. I had only just had time to do a double take and verify beyond doubt it was my bike, when he came out, and started to get on it to leave.
I walked up to him and said :
'That's my bike'
He said
'No it's not' , but already looked a bit confused
'Yes it is', i said, ' It was stolen from the top end of Castenau road, a few weeks ago'
(at this point, i should add, i had now had time to look the guy over, and was a bit alarmed to discover that in adition to his shaved head, he was covered in tattoos and generally looked a bit hard. he was shorter than me though, thankfully.)
'I didn't steal it', he said
'Who did you buy it from then?' i said, stupidly offering him a way out
' I didn't steal anything, i just found it laying around' he said, missing the way out.
'Yes, you found it laying around near a bus stop, at the top end of castelnau road, which is where i left it. Can i have it back?'
Then he just looked beaten and handed me the bike. and with that he turned tail and was gone, I know not where.
