I've heard a few cases of the Sugino RD (?) as supplied on the Langster's snapping after a while - always the left crank. They are double chainring cranks, with one steel chainring, they were on my 2006 Langster. The machining/casting leaves a lot to be desired.
Does that echo what the shop mechanic, Greg, reports?
I sold my set on Ebay, replaced them with NJS Sugino 75's, these are immeasurably better - rigidity, machining, 144 BCD etc ...
In the past I have also used the latest Dura Ace (Octalink type, until that bike was nicked from Poland Street) I also highly recommend these.
Had a bit of experience with the Campag C Record track cranks, also awesome! I'd personally steer clear of the old school design Campy fluted 60's/70's cranks, they suffer from fatigue cracks and breakages ... that's why you see so many left or right only cranks on Ebay, as opposed to pairs :)
