How about 200 miles...when in Rome and all that. Either way I'm interested.
How about London to Plymouth? 310k.

On reflection the "back" bit makes more sense.

200mi would be good to knock over 'while we're at it' so to speak. Let me check where Plymouth is (yes, you can laugh).
On the road bike not the Soma for now - to cut down on the whinging I output during and after the ride.

That's like the Stonehenge ride plus extra... and then back.
At least there wont be a time limit for this. -

What's it like riding the A roads in the day? I'm always a bit scared to ride them, which makes it a pain to plan anything...
-
• #9
Depends which one. The one leading to Folkstone is really quiet and picturequse. But the A12 is horrible.

Some are fine, some are crazy but I grew up riding with fast-moving highway traffic so I may be more desensitized compared to European city peeps..

London to Croyde Bay in North Devon http://www.croydedevon.co.uk/ 211 miles
beautiful but a bitch to get back from

The A303 is a seriously dangerous road. Single lane for a good deal of it and mad mad overtaking.

beautiful but a bitch to get back fromIt's gotta either be a return journey or a one-way with easy/good transport links back.
So, ending up in a bigger city is a good thing. Don't wanna finish and then find out I can't get home, or have to ride another 50k to train station. -

I would love to give this a go, however I only own a SS and a fix. So I'd have to buy a geared bike for this, unless you think I could do it on my SS?
-
• #18
I don't own a geared bike (well I do own a moutain bike but I wouldn't ride it on the road)...with enough time I would have a go fixed.

London - Bournemouth sounds good.
I can bail out to the in-laws for the weekend.

It's possible but not optimal and you might die trying to keep up. Buy a gearie :)

I guess it could be fixed (You'd think I'd have learnt my lesson from DD?!) and then photoben could ride too.
It's gonna be tricky setting pace though. -

I would opt fo a loop or there and back. Trains back from 200 miles away can end up being very expensive.
How about london to: brighton to:petersfield to:andover to:london. 204 miles.

i'll probably be busy anyways 8^)
I want to do a 300km ride.
I keep nudging 250k in a single day but I've never cracked 300k.
Suggestions (other than seeking professional medical help) for London-ish routes. Bath and back?
Anyone else wanna join in and crack the 300 mark?
