Each to there own Winston. I love playing mechainc with my bike and the only thing I have ever taken my bike in for is to have the b.b thread chased out on an italin b.b (very expesive tool as I am sure you know) but David clearly doesn't. He is putting some cash to a small business and his custom may encourage them to stock or get suppliers e.t.c for uncommon parts. I don't want to spend money on the stuff David does but it is his money to waste / spend a he sees fit. better than spending it on car parts.
