  • Wait for it..

  • yeah. Armageddon sucks. men on horseback, plagues, brimstone etc. give me floods anyday.

  • rakan I'm seriously considering buying a mudguard :(

yep, me too. Gonna get seriously soaked in about 5 mins.
after seeing the headlines I'm kinda expecting to see a wall of water gushing towards me from the direction of the river.

  • i hate this bloody summer, wettest fscuker in years. Whats he fscking point in cycling anywhere if god's just going to keep pissing on you, roll on a dry cold winter I say...

  • edmundane what do they exist? where can you buy them rakan?.

He said shop in Soho called Hideout or something. Try google for goretex jeans.

Edwin make Goretex jeans. Their shop in covent garden has closed down though. They were expensive £240 pounds!!!
Probably why they didn't make enough money. I was fortunate enough to know someone who worked there and got a pair for £25. They are black denim with smooth Goretex lining. Do a great job too. I'm sure other companies will be onto it. If Hideout have a version they'll be megabucks.

gore text lined jeans.....now thats quality.

how did they stand up to heavy rain and beer fights?

  • I don't really see the point. If your lined jeans get wet then they still look like you've pissed yourself or whatever - it's just that your legs remain dry. What's the point?

  • i see your point, but i like the idea of being able to not bother about a change of clothes sometimes+ in the winter they would be warm
what would be better is denim that was mixed with gortex like ripstock ....come you textile boffins.

  • denim is shit when it gets wet. heavy and takes fucking forever to dry..

the only reason I can think of for having goretex on the inside is so you can piss yourself and no-one will notice..

until it runs out over your shoes..

  • I like the cut of your jib. :)

    Where's my nappies..

  • I like the goretex jeans idea. Fair enough its not waterproof on the outside, but I've always imagined being able to have waterfroof jeans that at least keep your legs dry in some capacity. I suppose it would come under 'gadgets' section of my brain. saw some on intertnert, but long way to go on the cuts...

  • i think i've changed my mind about them. jeans are so 20th century. goretex or not. and too expensive. i can buy a set of wheels open pros laced onto goldtecs handbuilt with that money.

but what other choices are there for cycling? no lycra + chamois for me (don't try to sell it to me hippy).
i don't really fancy camo either i've been asked if i'm a courier enough times even without a proper messenger bag and i have no intention to be a fakenger!

  • Scott - yeah :)

hippy I don't really see the point. If your lined jeans get wet then they still look like you've pissed yourself or whatever - it's just that your legs remain dry. What's the point?

That's right. They'd weigh a tonne and isn't the idea of gore-tex that it is light?

On the plus side for today...

It's not going to rain! :D

Shame I'm stuck inside all day...

  • edmundane but what other choices are there for cycling? no lycra + chamois for me (don't try to sell it to me hippy).

You know it's the only way...

  • if you don't want to change cloths but want to stay dry without camo gear just get a pair of over trousers from the market.

The problem with over trousers is that they get hot. I have some and wore them on a ride (about 1hr 15 min) in winter during the snow with shorts on under them and was still very hot. You will be uncomfortable when it rains, no mater what, so just try and have a change of clothes at work.

  • Problem with stuff that goes over your clothes is heat. More heat = more sweat, ie. I end up just as wet wearing waterproofs as I do wearing a t-shirt and knicks.
Therefore, unless it's cold, why bother with the rain gear? Just get wet then get changed.

  • yeah that what I am saying, but a kjacket is nice as it stops you getting a chill.

  • Shorts and t-shirt today! At last!

  • It's was lovely not being soaking wet. I bet it'll rain loads tomorrow because it's my day off...

Was quite chilly though at 8am this morning, I wouldn't mind picking up some arm warmers :)

  • I use sock with the toe cut off and hole for my thumbs, I look like a tramp but am quite warm and can remove them while riding

  • You can pick up a set from bike swap meets for a couple of quid.
I like the super roubaix(sp?) ones.. similar to these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360021724 £10

  • well not that it really bothers me too much being asked if i'm a courier i just have to say no. i just don't like camo.

think i'll stick with the old ways then - extra clothes + get changed. i just need a waterproof bag now.
