  • This season I will be mostly riding these

  • When I was in Lyon a couple of years ago they had a similar project. It was very cool.

    Stupid London.

  • The Paris one is a copy of the Lyon one, after it was the such a sussex there. They've got bikes like those in Barcelona too. Good ol' Europeans know how to make cities.

  • the picture is tiny, what is it?

  • ? The picture is 1024 x 768, that's not tiny.

  • France

    Germany

  • german one looks more softtail , - but it hasnt got a skirt or kilt guard.

  • picture is bigger - still dont know what it is, an electric bike?/?

  • jv picture is bigger - still dont know what it is, an electric bike?/?

Its a city-wide bike rental scheme.

The Lyon one was sponsored by Decathlon iirc, you swipe your card at a post at the end of the bike rack, it takes your details. First hour is free, after that it was something under 5E an hour. Bikes had dynamo lights, built in lock and locked onto the rack with magnets.

    And everyone was riding them.

  • Im in france now
and ive just ridden on one of them grey beasts

jesus there like plastic tanks, brilliant idea though

paris you say.....talking on fgss forum!!!!
    sad you say??????

    oh dear

  • I know these german ones. Typical german efficency.

    Lets teach some engineering here:

See da number on the side ? U call that with your mobile if you want to unlock it
and your bill gets charged. inside there is a GPS transmitter.
If you call the number omitting the bike ID you get a computer voice telling you where
to find the next bike. If the bike is moved outside a certain city area it locks
automatically.apart from that you can take it where you want an leave it there outside on the street

All sponsered by German Rail. Have seen them mostly in Berlin..

    Good idea..but its not fixed...

  • hey smeear why don't you take your bike with you?
i assume you took the plane instead of the train?

  • them bike is everywhere, I have a stand of them just outside my house, its brilliant when the sun shines because all the sexy french girls are riding them ...

  • We have the OyBike scheme here.

The bikes tend to look abandoned rather than parked.

There's a couple at Willesden Junction.

Rusty, saddle missing, you get the picture I'm sure...

  • the-smiling-buddha them bike is everywhere, I have a stand of them just outside my house, its brilliant when the sun shines because all the sexy french girls are riding them ...

Wouldn't be quite the same in Peckham.

peckham should be burnt down. it really should, and everyone in it.

that's quite a claim. i'll keep it at least for the peckham multiplex. cheapest cinema in london apart from a home with bittorrent :P

  • You're not factoring in having all your valuables taken off you at knife point when you leave though..

  • hippy You're not factoring in having all your valuables taken off you at knife point when you leave though..

Typical west Londoner anything south / east or heaven forbid south east must be super duper dodgy.

I bet that is part of the reason you don't like the city, EC post code.

  • that cinema is cheap for a reason. the local populace, not content with eating dirt cheap fried chicken on the bus are actually permitted to eat it in the peckham multiplex so chicken bones and chicken grease on seats all round.

i stand by it. burn it

I have mates in the South and the East (one in Peckham). I pay them out about it. We laugh. I don't mind where they live. My borough is the only place I've actually seen a guy running down the street with a car stereo under his arm.. but then I am in Ealing much more often than Peckham. Oh, my boss was telling me some nice stories about Peckham yesterday so I've probably got a bad mental image about the area now..

Have a play around and you'll probably see more crime in the West.. it's fun for the whole family..

  • I like Peckham I find it 'interesting' I used to go to shakadance down that way in the 80's

  • Oh, I hate the city because of the suits, pink shirts, the prices, the sheer volume of people, pink ties, the extra distance I have to ride, pink shirts, the fact I have to dress up to sit in front of a fscking computer all day, pink shirts..

  • I am only pulling your leg hippy (not the middle one). No offense ment.

I have lived in South Ealing, West Drayton, Uxbridge currently Plumbstead soon to move to Woolwich Dockyard. Ealing was prob the nicest, Plumstead is quite shitty but not too bad West Drayton and Uxbridge was towny central and West Drayton was not a place that many of my Black or Asian mates felt too great about. West Drayton is the only place I have been chased on my bike, just riding along late at night and out of the corner of my eye I see two teenagers running at me, I serve and pedal as they continue to chace me. Wierd.

Oh yeah plus when I was living in West Drayton I could not get home one day as there was a guy in a house along my road holding people hostage with a gun. Nice.

  • Yeah, every area has good and bad spots. I live in an area where there's lots of deaths... yeah... OAPs having heart attacks! :)
But, just around the corner from me was where I saw the dude legging it with the stereo, so you know it's not perfect.
I've only lived in Ealing or West Ealing since I've been here. Compared to where I was in Melbourne (and that had a bad rep) all London is rougher.
Think it's just the fact there's more people so the percent of dodgies goes up. I was planning on moving east for the rent but my gf works in Greenford so I couldn't really leave the west. Pity, coz it'd make the commute bucketloads quicker. (I'm sure we've had this conversation before. Someone else can search for it though).
I also wanted to move closer to Herne Hill at one stage just so I could ride track! How daft! I think I'd just read Matt Seaton's book about south london and kent racing.. it's too fscking hot in this office so I'm just going to continue typing randomly okay? La la la..
