  • Talking about money.....I can't believe my luck. Maybe I have to revise my policy about using ebay.

Anybody with some pocket change that needs a rear hub ?

    Luck ?

    God Bless Japanes people !

  • wowzers!! well on your way to getting that deposit then Jos :-D

  • aidan never mind:).........i dont have any money anyway

Jos will lend you a tenner :-)

  • Jos: Where did you get that hub from? Let me guess.. garage sale for £15? :)

  • Nah, it was on a track bike I bought and I just thought to myself that it was a shame that it wasn't a set of regular Campa record hubs. Was just hoping to get 50 pounds for it. Woke up this morning and couldn't believe my eyes.

  • Nice one! Bet you'll be keeping your eyes open for those hubs in future! :D

  • why is the hub like that????

  • Some kind of false physics.. like "make drive side spokes shorter to reduce power loss, asymmetrical distribution of blah blah" You know the kind of thing..

  • ummmm thanks

  • They had a point to try it back then though. Spokes weren't as strong as they are now, so if you reduce the sopke lenght you can put more tension on them to get a stiffer wheel. Nowadays because of the modern technic it's unnecessary.

  • It's not the length of the spokes that matters (the difference is marginal) - it's the angle they make - the further off radial they are, the stiffer the wheel is in torsion. That's why track bikes have high flange hubs. In theory, this is most important on the drive side since that's where the torque is being applied, so I guess Campy were trying to save weight by removing material on the non-drive side while keeping the drive side torsionally stiff. I don't know how much difference it makes in practice - if the hub body is really beefy it should be able to transmit the torque to the non-drive side too. You do see some road bike wheels laced up tangentially on the drive side and radially on the non-drive side.

  • ahhh intresting..thanks:)

  • I'm after a flip/flop hub for my grandad bike. Anyone got one spare?
