  • anyone want a ticket back from darsham on the sat morning?? no use to me and i cant change it.....
    now - train or bus????!

  • Just booked my ticket back on train, anyone going on the 12.45?

  • I booked a later train so as to get so sightseeing in. (if there is any sights to see)

  • Ben - myself and dt are on that train.

  • Ooh.. I don't have to go back to work on Sunday after this ride. Means I can drink drink drink to my heart's.. oh I still have to ride across the city tired as fsck. Nae'mind.

  • ya need propper lights something good enough so you can ride in complete darkness and see any pothole before it's too late

  • no idea really you just kind of want to have something like a small headlight, i'm looking for stuff around as well, scored a led head lamp but was really cheap so i'm not etting my hopes up. I'll let yous know.
I also got a mini maglite but that's for the house, i think i'll tape that to the frame or something like that.

  • same here i'll be riding in armadillos.
but riding brakeless should give you a bit more to worry about, keep good distance stay sharp, i'm gonna stock up in ginseng, my second thing to sort out is the food and drinks.
London to brighton on fixed made me loose some weight and took me almost a month to recover, i think investing in some decent isotonic drink and high energy food would be a good idea, food, drink and some tool are all i'm gonna carry.
Maybe we should get organised and carry one thing each, my goal is to not have to use a bag. Bumbag and saddlebag but the trouble is that i have no holes for the bottle holder and don't really fancy the saddle thingy...

  • nurofen for what????no pain no gain, what food do you reccomend?and what drink?my choice is always water but might need somethin else or not probably gonna load myself with isotonics before the start and then stay on the water.

  • what the...

  • poor old mickey mouse fallen on hard times

  • Holland & Barrett sell two flavours (at least) of isotonic powder for making drinks. They taste nice but contain caffeine. This is good and bad. Bad for hydration being a diuretic but good for getting you through a ride. It's diuretic (making u piss) effect probably isn't that great anyway. I've tried the Boots isotonic powder and that's ok too. I don't like the Lucozade Sport isotonic power. I like the SIS isotonic stuff as well but it's more expensive than the others.
I'd love a run-down of the UK isotonic/energy drinks? Does anyone have a comparison of them? ie. cost/benefit/mineral content/etc??

  • not isotonic but volvic revive almost got me high the first time i drank it

  • I'm out of this too.

It's going to be hard to do from Toronto.

I'm missing all the cool rides, it sucks. This is one of the major reasons my attempts at racing was so poor, my work interferes with riding and training, and I just don't get to do all the stuff I want. Sucks.

  • Sounds like a great reason to cut down on your hours.

  • Anyone fancy a ride tonight? Bit of training?

  • hippy Sounds like a great reason to cut down on your hours.

    You'd think.

But I have a fantastic job that pays a lot and seldom asks anything of me. And when it does ask something of me it's usually to fly me out to a different city in a different country, where usually I get to go see friends and attend wild parties. Which is exactly what I'll do in Toronto. What sucks is that there aren't enough hours in the day and days in the year to do both Dunwich + Toronto, and Green Man Festival + Night Ride v2. That's what sucks. The work is great.

  • scott not scot Just wondered what kinda lights you guys are using?....will a commuter light be cool...or is anyone taking a proper big flood beam light for the dark country roads?

I did the bridges ride with my commuter light. It was fine on the streets, but on the offroad unlighted sections it wasn't good enough. Although it did throw out enough light to see by, it didn't light up enough of the road ahead of me for me to be confident enough to go faster.

Somebody had a really bright light, but I forgot to search him out and ask him what he had.

  • Yeah David, I totally agree. Doing a job you really like sometimes you have to make sacarifices a little. I couldn't make the brigdes ride as I was meeting a contact who might have a job for me. But it's all worth it!

p.s. might see ya at the Greeen Man!

Then, I would say to you.. "fsck the Dynamo! Party HARD!!!!" :)

  • is anyone just doing this using just LEDs with the idea of just hanging in behind someone with decent lights when the cloud and darkness are at their worst?

  • I've got a fairly bright cateye, and fressh batteries at every stop. Should be alright. I'm hoping my nightvision is as good as it used to be when I was in the darkrooms at uni.

  • cheers ben, am thinking along the same lines myself. won't be doing it if i have to splash out on special lighting.

  • i'm just gonna tape my mini maglite to the stem...with led it should be ok
