I don't care what it is but unless it is 'full contact' you won't learn a damn thing so if you want to learn to fight join a boxing club trust me you'll find out pretty damn fast if you have got what it takes - mix that up with some judo is which is brilliant fun - in the end though it is always far better just to walk away -

I did it for a while, comming from a kickboxing background, and thought it was a load of crap. Most of the technique stuff we did was kickboxing based (which was ok sparing), with a bit of grappling where the instructor would tell us to gauge or hit the opponent in the balls which obviously we couldn't practice.
JKD (http://www.bobbreen.co.uk is the best), http://www.tanglung.org academy training (Sambo+Wing Chun) or http://www.carlsongracie.org/for BJJ would be my recommendations for good combat training.

nah JKD's not my thing,i want to learn cqc and krav maga is the israeli version of it...pretty brutal army force. I spoke to a former sas soldier and he reckons that thai boxe and brasilian jujitsu is the cobination to go for. Then when i mentioned cqc he looked at me got close and said " well krav maga scares the crap out of me".

read this http://www.amazon.com/Championship-Streetfighting-Boxing-Martial-Art/dp/0873649346 it is very good, I did boxing, tae kwondo, karate, judo and then boxing again - kick boxing, thai or savate are considered to be the best forms of boxing if you are fit enough and have good natural timing and balance - personally I prefer boxing because boxing gyms have boxing rings and there is no point learning a fighting art unless you spar regularly and often - if you want special ops training go to ther man who wrote the bible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rex_Applegate - but special ops training teaches you to maim and kill - not really appropriate if someone just spills your pint - I did all this stuff for years - I ain't been in a fight since school - I found that 'bouncing' and shouting 'come on....let see you fucking skiils' in a broad cockney accent totally bemuses anyone outside of England

Self-teaching doesn't work. Join a club/find an instructor if you are serious about learning and stick with it for 4-6 years.

For Thai boxing isnt it reccommended that you break your fore-arms/legs so that they heal back stronger? I dont like the sound of that! If it meant i could fight like tony jaa in ong bak thuogh...
-
• #17
Hmm.. I was told you get more calcification around the initial break but then either side of that is now more likely to be weaker.
-
• #18
maybe they break their bones multiple times then.
maybe they just replace their arm and legbones with swords!

KM here is just hype and marketing from the US version and not the same as the Isrealy DF stuff.
kickboxing and BJJ (sombo is simular to BJJ and imho more efficient form of Jujitsu) are the staples of MMA but require a serious amount of training to get perficient in.
However I like the JKD take of making 5 or six moves your own then using a broad base of boxing, oriental MA's and grapling to back these up. I also prefer the emphisis on counter attack taken from fencing rather than block and counter you get in kickboxing (and kickboxing based MMA/self defence techniques including Krav Maga) and other MA's. -
