  • did you manage to get a chain long enough to go with that????

  • aaah right i see hippy.

This lock and security business is doing my head in. Arggggggh stupid management!!

  • Now I'm in your club.. though I made noise early so something got done.. something less than optimal but I'll work on that.

  • hippy It was suggested over the Abus Discus on a lock-picking forum.. kinda random, sorry.

Was that the Lock picker Network by any chance?

I know the guy that runs that and he loves abloy locks say abus gust do poor cheap copies.

  • Hi, I am the chap in the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck

It was shot in front of the press (Riders Digest), the square and kryptonite were donated by visordown.com lads and it transpires the Fahgetaboudit was a NY Kryptonite chain.

This asside we have just finished a test that I was asked to attend by ITV to be shown 24 July 7.30pm (london, southest) or SKY 993. In this we use only 2 tools a pair of wire cutters and a set of bolt croppers. Cable locks lasted seconds with the cable cutters £27 from machinemart, 13mm D locks can be cropped in seconds and the chains on test Kryptonite Fahgetaboudit lasted 11 seconds with the croppers, and the Abus Granite City X plus lasted even less (much less). Not having attacked D locks before, we decided to back to basics and purchased a miniature bottle jack costing £50 that is small enough to put in the palm of your hand. The jack puts out 5 tonnes and split the body of the Kryptonite 3000 D lock 16mm in two. Car jacks are for kids, the bottle jacks is quicker, a lot smaller and renders the majority of U and D locks usless. I have the footage of the Kryptonite going but is not going to be shown, until the CTC have had my method confirmed. However you might be interested to know Sold Secure do not use cable cutters when testing cable locks!!!!!!

I will allow one private viewing of the Kryptonite going in Newcastle city centre, I can be found on 01912642773. I ain't selling nothing just the truth that Sold Secure are inept at testing security and are more concerned in passing products than failing them.I have challenged them to allow me to bring the press down, they provide the security and I will go through 95% of it with croppers, wire cutters and miniature bottle jack in seconds silently.

People need to wake up with the fact, the testing bodies are not their for you, they are their for themselves and the companies that need a pass to sell this shite.

Seriously give me a call, tell me if you think its a fake, that Riders Digest are bent and Sold Secure do a fine job. Mind you nearly 440,000 reported cycle thefts that were insured last year, 396.000 were locked speaks volumes. Yes I sell chain, but it is not going to stop me telling the truth about this dirty business.

    Best Regards

    Alex

  • Sorry about all the typo's, I touch type and got carried away!

    Where is the edit feature?

  • wow....intresting,im just not gonig to bother with a lock

  • Almax9633 Sorry about all the typo's, I touch type and got carried away!

    Where is the edit feature?

top right hand corner of your original post

  • i don't doubt your products are very strong but they are also heavy!
i think cyclists know locks only give you a certain amount of time and are more of a deterrent to an opportunist thief and an annoyance to a professional one but i would rather use an acceptable lock (in my case a granit x-plus) which i can just about carry. but the bike is insured and i would rather pay a higher premium than carry a heavy chain around.
but i rarely use my lock as i hardly ever lock it anywhere.

  • How heavy is the .7m Almax chain?

  • HI, with regards to the Abus Granit City Black X-Plus it lasted 6 seconds in front of ITV when confronted with a pair of Irwin Record 42" bolt croppers as used by sold secure! Strange how Sold Secure are unable to bolt crop any chains, when we can in front of a camera and even if the producer buys them. This stinks, and Sold Secure will be owned on the 24th of July ITV or Sky 993

    Alex

  • I have just learned, the Abus is Thatcham 5 min attack tested CAT3 so Sold Secure did not approve this product.

  • How heavy is the .7m Almax chain?

  • Almax9633 The jack puts out 5 tonnes and split the body of the Kryptonite 3000 D lock 16mm in two.

To be fair a lot of security is locking technique, i.e. make sure you can't get the jack in the lock in the first place! I'd be interested in seeing your demonstration but it's simply too far for me to travel just to see a chain broken.

  • This stinks, and Sold Secure will be owned on the 24th of July ITV or Sky 993

    0wn3d!

  • haaaa, i never noticed he said that :)

  • eeehhhh I have it on a wmv 9.45 mb file, just supply me with your email address and its yours to view and comment on. However do not send it out, but delete it please after watching. This will be covered in CTC's test in the next couple of weeks to cover me from legal action.

The weight of our 0.7m is 3.85kgs with the lock.

  • As far as the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit chain being bolt cropped on ITV, Sky 993. ITV are putting it up on you tube!!!!!

How will Sold Secure like those apples!

  • As far as locking a chain tight to a bike, forget that affording any protection agains croppers. It can either be bolt cropped or not and getting the chain tight off the floor only protects against slede and wedge attacks. Given these methods create noise the scrotes will always choose bolt croppers as the weapon of choice. As for miniature jacks putting out 5 tonnes. These are so small that any owner would be struggling to prevent this form of attack, we are talking 50mm high or 2 inches.

  • I've whispered my email to you, Almax, in this thread.

  • eeehhh, I have sent an email requesting your telephone number, or if you wish contact me on 01912642773.

    Thx

    Alex

  • the granit-x plus 54 is 1.6kilo and what i call heavy for a bike lock.
your chain is 3.85kilo! I don't care how good a lock it is i'm not carrying round the equivilent of 8 bags of sugar in my bag. on a scooter fine, on a bicycle no way.
you chain is probably a great product i just can't see it being used by cyclists unless they can leave the chain and lock their bike to it in the same place every day.

do you actually ride a bike around much? i'm guessing not.

  • 4kg! Ouch. You can almost get an entire bike that weight.
It'd be good to stick in your bag for hill training sessions though..

  • Dont shoot the messenger! Alamax9633 is only telling it how it is.
Most kids who knick bikes are half the weight of the testers so might not be able to exerpt as much pressure on those croppers.
I demand a hoody dispproved certificate! Where is Lynne Folds-Wood when you need her?
