just got home and my bag is soaked through. Got it 2nd hand off my favourite stockwell-based eBay bike parts guy a month or so ago. Its a chrome kremlin, and I'm sure they're not supposed to let much water in... Does anyone have any experience in this matter- like, y'know, can I re-waterproof it, or do I have to tear out the tarp-liner and sew a new one in? I can wrap my stuff up for the time being, but its a bit annoying. Just want to chuck my stuff in and know its dry...
-

Was it closed properly? Most would leak through the corners of the flap before the liner leaked, unless the liner is badly damaged. If the liner is damaged then you might have to replace it - they are removable on Chrome bags so you might be able to get a replacement.
-
• #60
yeah there was a bit of water at the edge of the flap, but the liner has got a few tiny holes and its quite cracked on the inside. So do I need to unpick the stitches to take the liner out or can I just remove it? Quite fancy the idea of a new lighter coloured liner- might make it easier to find stuff inside. Any ideas if I can order one from anywhere in london, or is it a chrome-direct job? thanks, btw.

I thought Chrome bags have a velcro in liner - could be wrong as I don't own one. Condor have Chrome bags so they might be able to help.

haha my mum just told me she asked our postie if he could sort me out a bag.
he had no idea due to him driving a van but i may apprehend an on foot one if i see him.
i really want a royal mail bag, cant afford a proper one. student! -

yeah, tarp 'liner' velcro's out everywhere except on the actual flap that covers the front where its firmly sewn in. Anyhows, I rang condor earlier on, but the dude on the phone (who didn't seem that interested) said he'd Never heard of anyone replacing the liner, and was rather confident that a chrome bag could have gone down with the titanic and would still be shrugging off water even now. Best solution he came up with was to 'line it with a bin-bag.' nice. Had a look at nikwax's product range and have decided to give their motorcycle gear-waterproofing spray a go. (http://www.nikwax.co.uk/en-gb/products/productdetail.php?productid=65&activityid=5) If its good enough for hurtling along motorways in horizontal rain it'll be good enough for my commuting bag...

cool man thanks. I'm gonna try that nikwax malarkey and if my stuff still gets soaked I'll let you know, and we'll take it from there.

My shitty bag is fine most of the time but when I have big loads I would like a back pack. The trouble is that I find hiking backpack are long and narrow resulting in hitting your head on the top and not too good for wide loads. I would love a bag like one of these with loads of strap to tie extra things on. Anyone seen anything like this in the uk or a simlar bag in dimensions that could be customised with extra straps to do the job?
Some links.

Not being funny, but, can you leave them at work? I leave my stuff in the office, ride in, change. Get it dry-cleaned near work and you don't have to carry it anywhere.
Course my sh1t is just thrown in a cupboard at the moment coz I don't have any fscking storage but they can get fscked for making me wear this sh1t again.. fscking cnuts.. I'm only sitting down in front of a computer - why does that require formal clothing?! Grrr (no pink shirt yet) -
