Im a photographer (the pocket camera brigade haven't put me out of business yet.) and IME it's not viable for any shop to employ me to shoot unless the images are going to be in use for at least a year for example condor when then they change their colours etc for the next years catalogue the images are going to be out there for a whole year and used in the press for PR etc, if a bike is going to be sold after a few weeks it's not worth the trouble, a bit different if you are selling a new model that is exclusive to the shop, this is when good photography pays off.
there is nothing worse than reading about a potential new bike but you can only find crappy pics of it.
I do shoot bikes/frames in the studio for a mates small bike company, it's not as easy as you think to get them looking nice.
