I dunno tommy, I reckon the computers will be programmed to look out for any obstacle. That being said, bikes are small and hard to see. I reckon its always going to be a problem no matter what, unless cyclists wear clothing that can be seen from space and perhaps fix permanent sirens to their bike. Oh and cycle in a full suit of armour. Perhaps even bring a jousting pole to provide cars with a warning jab?

No there are only realying info between nearby cars so no sensors.
The problem is the type of person who says things like "I don't need to worry about the rain /snow / whatever I have four wheel drive" there are many out there give them another excusse to payless attention to the road and many will take it.

I borrowed a car a few months ago that drove itself.
You set the cruise control to a certain speed and it would accelerate up to that speed, unless something was in the way, when it would match their speed. If you dial in 100mph then it will follow the car in front that's doing 50mph, but when he changes lanes it would zoom off again. If someone pulled in front of you it would brake again.
It also steered itself, but only when there were white lines on both sides of the lane, otherwise it got lost!
Very weird at first, but it's surprising how used to it you get.

surprising? i'd say worrying.
Yeah well the tyres on my bike say "blizzard sport" so i am also able to cycle easily on anything from hail to arctic tundra. AND i only have 1 wheel drive.
it's sad that people with that mentality are driving cars like that. If they rode a bike with that mentality they would soon stop being a problem...
"...well i'm wearing a helmet so even if i crash head-first into a bus i'll be totally fine. Or i'll get my money back!'

cars are yesterday's mode of transport.
the world is changing fast and this city is at the forefront, yet still so very far behind.
Buses? FFS! stops 30yds apart then gridlock? lazy people getting on for one stop? if you can't walk the journey, then there are trains and tubes (which are shit and for human cattle)
it's not the 1960s anymore . they do not work.
cars? prohibitively expensive to run and keep on the road for key workers, painfully slow progress through town, nothing but toys for the rich and indolent.
FUCKING BIKES WORK.
when will people stop being cunts and admit that we are right and deserve some respec? eh? ;)

Is this a pre Tesla, Tesla thread?
Ok I don't like to needlesly bash motorist for no reason as I think most are just trying to get where they are goin safely and do not wish harm on anyone. One of the big problems I think there is however is the fact that drver do not tend to need to concentrate as much as cyclists, hence they start doing other things like talking on phones e.t.c
So a new safty feature stated in the BBC here talks of cars talking to eachother and giving warnings to me it seems like a recipey for even more lazy driving, because remember the computers will not be looking out for bikes will they. I think the intention is good but human nature will make it more dangorous.
