Piers Thanks David. Is there a reason (other than it being uncool) not to have the back brake? I like to hold the hoods when climbing.
You have the brake bosses there. I'd leave it there.
I'm going to leave the rear brake on the Soma because I may take it on longer/hillier rides and when I'm knackered flip to singlespeed.
Or leave it fixed on descents and use the brake to rest my legs. Fashion can fair ol' get fscked! Fashion is what brought you pink shirts.. sums it up really.. ;)My Raleigh track has two brake hoods but no rear brake. You can do the phantom hood thing with any set of levers, the only thing is my internals on the phantom lever rattle a little bit. I've just got to glue the little cable retainer down but I'm a lazy fscker and haven't got around to it yet.
Buck the self-harm trend. Brakes are cool!
I'll swap you your black ones for my Campag ones.. stupid Campag junk.. mumble grumble..

Thanks for all the advice - I'll leave it there for now. Anyway, braking with the pedals hurts my pathetic roadie legs.

You shouldn't need to torque 'em down until they break. I don't and I'm pretty sure I can put some power into the rear wheel, ie. if someone was gonna shift the wheel accelerating, I would.
I do run chain tugs though which could make a difference, but even when I didn't I'd only have to re-tension the chain once a week(ish). -

nice one mrvista, congrats on your build. but are you riding fixed without toeclips?
i was thinking of buying that frame from roberto... i think either you, or if not, jan at brick lane bikes snapped it up.
did you get that from brick lane bikes or roberto?yeah silver seatpost please! don't think that black one suits the frame.

HI EDMUNDANE got it from brick lane bikes, fixed no toe clips, theres not enough room!
-
• #365
hey mrvista
so i bet jan from brick lane bikes bought it from roberto and sold it to you. mind telling me how much you got the frame for?
riding fixed without any kind of attachment to your pedals is really rather dangerous... well for me at least. yeah the frame is very tight do you mean there's pedal overlap? i have pedal overlap too but i do have clips and yeah you get used to it, it's less of problem for me than riding without clips.
you might want to try SPD's for that.
-
• #366
Yeah you should try no clips for a taste. I've been riding on flat bmx pedals for 3 months now, and it just takes a bit of imaginative footwork to get the wheel locked up.:]
mind you, I have been stalling on buying some powergrips for some time now, and kinda miss the instantaneos sllding of the bike beneath, with such ease as is afforded with the mighty foot-trapment-device. -
• #367
ive had no problems (so far!) riding clipless, the gearings lite so i cant go that fast anyway!
-
• #368
nice, i like the brooks saddle and tape combo : )
-
• #369
someone else said it the other day that having a fixed wheel mountain bike is dangerous due to when riding off road the pedals can easily hit the ground/rocks/tree roots....is this the case or was the person who told me that a big fat lier?????

aidan, i'd say from a statistical point of view, chance of getting run over by an HGV in london is higher than pedal strike on a mountain fixie.
and picking the wrong line is a factor in both situations that multiplies the chance by how wrong it is :) -

oh yeah gearing is light on the bob griffin...
mine's 48:16. meant to change it but no cash and tools YET. i'm used to darting around the place with my road bike this gearing is light for me already. would be scared shitless if i go anywhere without clips. -

after 12 months of continually changing bits and tweaking it's almost there, so I thought i'd share...

that is just super-nice
