all things being equal, I reckon the majority of cyclists have/will have learned something useful from sheldon. Once you become a bit savvy yourself, then a lot is just opinion and personal experience.
as for the bible, fuck all good ever came out of that did it!

winston People talk about Saint Sheldon's website like it's some kinda BIBLE.
Well here's my thoughts on his site AND the bible:
Just coz someone has taken the time to write something down doesn't mean it's right / true......it just means that they wrote it down.Hey, you just wrote that down.. how can we possibly believe you now?!?! Sheesh! Why didn't you just tell as at the pub.. ;)

the info on there is good but it's possibly one of the most difficult/frustrating websites to navigate I've encountered :-/

Solution: Google for a bike-related question and add "sheldon" in the search string. "Gets 'em every time!"

Sheldon Brown...
texture like sun...hang on, that's not right

Of course it's not going to be 100% reliable, no source is really. But it's still my first web site for bike problems, can't deny that it's not useful.

If you don't find it from Sheldon, parktools.com has great maintenance pages.

Sheldon Brown is OK, it's Jesus Christ you don't want fucking around with your bearings.

Jesus, built my hotrod..
but my bike comes straight from Satan's stinking pit of filth
-

it's just a huge website with lots of factoids half and hour to spare go through one letter of the alphabet on his site, there will be something new to most of us here

Sheldon may be right or wrong about a lot of things, but it was stumbling across his website 7 years ago that got me into the whole fixed gear thing in the first place. Gotta respect the man for that.

He may be a bit odd but you gotta respect someone with that level of passion for cycling.

I think you gotta respect the beard alone. Anyway the guy is putting out his knowledge for everyone to benifit from, that's pretty cool. He's a kind of wise grandad figure of the cycling world.

No one is right all the time, but he probably fixed, built, rode and tinkered with more bikes than the entire mechanic staff of any bike shop in London (and possibly elsewhere). He is a good guy and is probably fun to have a beer with too. Sadly, he is no longer riding.
