i saw this website a while back to check out the frames towards the bottom of the site lots of jf wilson frames plus other goodies dotted in amongst them range of sizes tubing types and styles
    http://www.wilsoncycles.co.uk/frames.htm
just shield your eyes before you look at the paint jobs though !!

My first, current and only fixed is a French blue Wilson frame that I found through his web site - love it to bits, it's only 501 but handles like a dream. Nigel Wilson is also a true gentleman and provides an excellent service. I keep thinking that when I'm rich I'll go back to him and have him make me a track frame.

  • Knucklehead The decals look like they should be on the latest desk-top printer

funnily enough I just saw someone's triathlon/time trial bike in Edwardes that had a big Apple logo on it.
Not sure whether they're sponsoring him (unlikely!) or it's a diy job.

Anyway, I went in there to have another look at the red pinarello - the guy in the shop said it was the only steel track frame pinarello do and they were discontinuing it after this year. i don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing... call me a traditionalist and/or a snob but welded steel just doesn't do it for me, so I think I'm crossing the pinarello off the list, along with the bianchi and the condor - plus, I'd much rather give my dosh to Yan at brick lane.

  • i ride a pista, but im trying not to haha we live and learn. my new bike is on its way....slowly

the pista has served me for a year and things are now falling apart. basically if i knew what i know now i wouldnt have.

  • natureboy i figured bianchi must be cranking them out to cash in on the fg/ss craze. My guess is that as far as the engineering is concerned, bianchi have gone for style over substance, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Bianchi have been making track frames for years. I actually quite like 'em - even the newer ones.

  • natureboy good find dicki - my anglocentric search didn't spot that!
my brother speaks polish so I'll get him to translate the blurb.

    http://www.poltran.com might help.

  • i have the fuji and have replaced the wheels with harry rowland cpx 22s, stuck some cinelli bars on and changed the saddle*.

it's much nicer now and the geometry is just right.

  • natureboy I quite like the decals - understated - but I see what you mean about the fork. Did you notice how it says 'recycled by gromada' on the down tube? I wonder if that means it's not actually a gromada frame?

'recycled by gromada' doesn't appear on google. Hmmm???
Could get my polski gf to ask 'em about it?

That Dublin pursuit frame you are talking about is probably like this:

  • i quite like the look of those

oh, I know they've been making track frames for years :) I was only referring to retro-look chrome model.
how long have they been making those?

  • matthew did you ever take the bike down to herne hill i met a guy there a couple of times on a jf wilson one saturday morn and a monday night session ? i was on a white cannondale
    is it you ?

  • This is the one that I was talking about

BTW, it looks like the bike that's on FGG says "recycled by Gromada GROMADA ostro.com.pl" on the downtube. Ostro are the people who make the "pursuit" bike that hippy posted so maybe that's who are making these framnes for Gromada

  • Perhaps.. I read that ostro are a 'we make whatever you want' place and probably take orders from others like Gromada? Quite happy to receive info either way.
I'll probably be in Poland around August for GF's brother's sons baptism (or something) and a holiday (since I can't go to Oz.. grrr). I might get some more info before I go and see if I can track some stuff down. I like their hubs for example..

  • The Gromada hubs are really nice and well worth looking into. I think there's quite a long waiting time so it might be worth looking into it now if you are interested. Gromada is a cool guy (I met him in Dublin a while ago) and I'm sure he'd be happy to chat about his frames as well.

  • i see that one is a lugged construction, whereas the new ones are welded.

actually, I'm going to be in poland (in Wroclaw) in august too for my brother's wedding.
anyone know where is gromada is based?

  • i jus bought a bob jackson frame. ain't arrived yet but well excited.. just sold my langster to a mate and so have a bit of cash to buy parts with. what wheels would you reccommend. chainring etc? where from? i'm in south london. also, i want to get one of those nippon stems (?).
    help is much appreciated. cheers

  • Why are you Mr Pink?

    Can't you be Mr Black?

Everybody wants to be Mr Pink.

  • Mr Pink what wheels would you reccommend. chainring etc? where from? i'm in south london. also, i want to get one of those nippon stems (?)

A lot depends on your budget wheelwise, Chainrings depend on what cranks you've got and by Nippon stem, do you mean Nitto stem ie deep drop track stem? In which Hubjub.co.uk is your friend. Probably best to start a new thread on this.

  • Natureboy- i like the steel pinarello track frames (fairly relaxed geometry for a track frame)

    • but then i would say that. I like the modern look and... I have a blue one. Which is deeply sexual.
      Humps bike
  • the pinarello was pretty sexy - but it's difficult not to be when it's so damn red!

well, I just bought the Ciocc - that Italian charm proved irresistable. I asked Yan at BLC about it and he said it's a 15 year old Columbus SLX frame that had never been built into a bike. They found it unpainted in a bike shop in Italy on one of their forays. It's bright yellow now. Seems like a tight geometry - wheel base
is 93cm compared with 97cm for my squadra, chain stay about 40.5cm, but I don't know what's normal for a track frame.

Thanks for all your advice! Now for important decisions like what colour rims to get...

  • kowalski Why are you Mr Pink?

Everybody wants to be Mr Pink.

As least it's not Mr Brown. That's too close to Mr Shit.

  • what about baby blue?

  • hippy [quote]natureboy I quite like the decals - understated - but I see what you mean about the fork. Did you notice how it says 'recycled by gromada' on the down tube? I wonder if that means it's not actually a gromada frame?

I love this !! any ideas on prices ? i could email them but just wondering ...

  • Sorry, not a clue. Let us know when you find out.. :)

  • Search bikeforums for threads about why it's badly designed and made and long delays in delivery for some of those who've ordered them. Otherwise look at the website and email the people who make them to ask wht it will cost.
