Guys,
I am a noob, can anyone exlain the basics about usage of carbon fibre for biking to me ?
The reduced weight only ?
well I always wondered, because with the riders weight & bike combined
even the loss of one kilo is relatively small (stupid me things).
I could understand carbon wheels for reduced torgue .
Well I know it is a generally used term for THE cutting edge material...but why exactley?Has is better characteristics ? dynamic stiffness ? damping ? corrosion ?
Sorry for sounding like a German engineer from Volkswagen,

vorsprung durch technik?
i think people are using carbon for the reduced weight. i remember seeing a fully geared bike that weighed about 8lbs (3.7kg). as for damping and stiffness, it would depend on the bike. the colnago extreme power is a very stiff bike, whereas something designed for the paris-roubaix will be designed to absorb shock. current carbon frames are pretty beautiful (especially the colnago c50), but i don't like the fact that you need to get your bike checked for any kind of cracking after a crash. some suggest going as far as needing to x-ray it.
i personally prefer steel-frame bikes. classy and developed since the bike's inception. carbon only has about 38 years of development under its belt.
get some decent 1" carbon forks?
