Great photos, making me jealous. Employment can be a right royal pain in the arse when it comes to trips like that.
So, what's the story with the brightest bike in the world? It reminds me of my army surplus fire jacket. it loves the flashlight...

we were doing 15 - 20 mph most of the time, but then count in punctures, rest every hour on the hour as daz needed a roll-up about that regularly a few stops to check maps food breaks coffee breaks etc maybe a few too many breaks but hey it isn't the tour de france we left hyde park at 9 got to the henge at about 4.15 4.30 it was 83 miles or so 7.5 hrs that makes about 11mph overall

Yeah doesn't sound too fast, shame I was too busy. Mind you if I had been a man I would have found time to do it, I suck.

Pace was quite high at the start (I was happy when Dazz said we'd slow down) but towards the end I know I was feeling pretty knackered and Dazz wasn't exactly enjoying the hills. Julian was flying, especially for someone who hadn't ridden that particular bike for 9mths? I'm not sure we'd have made it on time riding fixed. Those rolling hills take their toll.

first time on a geared bike since last sept odd experience and as the saying goes you're never in the right gear !
-
• #35
It's funny you should say that. I've got a 12-27 on the rear and it really doesn't have a nice gear for me.
Mostly on small front ring but that often didn't 'quite' gear high enough (i like to spin but not THAT much).
When I moved to the big ring it's ever so slightly too high and doesn't like big-big(ish) ratios.
Never had this problem with 12-23! Hmmf! :) -

i guess on a fixie you just get on with it on a roadie you know you have choice so you try and get it right changing up down and all around slowing down all the time

I just need to adjust my gears better when using the big ring. Commuting around London I rarely use it - only down a couple of hills will I bother changing up to the large chainring.

good morning chaps,
i know that you travelled at night, and one article talked of the A30, i was wondering if on the way back, you used a quiter route. i work in salisbury and was thinking of visiting my sister in slough. there is a route along the kennet and avon canal way, but it adds a few miles i believe. any quiet route info would be much appreciated, i will be travelling during daylight hours.

I used to live near Salisbury. In a village called Shrewton (about 2 miles from Stonehenge).
