Build
TheBrick(Tommy)
bristlypioneer
"Zero Bike" is designed by Makota Makita and Hiroshi Tsuzaki from Tokyo, Japan. The bike is a hubless, spokeless and very lightweight bicycle powered by cranking magnetic pedals which rotate the tires suspended between other magnets. It has won a design excellence award by the Industrial Design Society of America.
This is a crazy idea. Future aadvances in magnet technology! They would have to be some serious advances. This type of things winds me up.
Less mechanical resistance.
If it was yellow it could be one of those TRON bikes.
Yeah I know what the idea behind it is but there are massive problems getting it to work and even if you did there are many other problems with the concept.

Less mechanical resistance? But what about the magnetic resistance! Magnets powerful enough to hold that front wheel in place are going to cause some seriously weird effects which would probably either stop it from rotating ever or make it permanently spin like a bastard. I'm not up enough on physics to work out which way it'd go tho :|

TheBrick(Tommy) One of my favourate recent views.
With cool top tube protector.
He's gonna need a protector for his top tube protector... I wouldn't wanna get that thing scratched!

Spin like a bastard is closer. Though there is drag and resistance from the road, tyre, etc... so it won't spin forever.
It will make the bike heavy though. Enough magnetism to avoid contact when given the combined weight of rider and bike will not be light.
I agree with TheBrick, it won't work because of too many technical issues. Great concept nonetheless though.

... That's better!!
-
• #232
all those technical issues fade away why don't they just build all bike wheels with spokes it seems so logical

oh dear god and cor blimey guv'nor.... what a looker as i recall i don't have a tt bike YET
usually in the questions asked section people ask about wheel size crank dimensions etc all that bloke has had were comments about how beautiful the bike looks !! it's more like a forum ..... i don't think anyone will bid on that just because they are too busy looking at it !

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dancingweaponofmassdestruction/sets/72157600401874698/This is the same as my previous bike (except mine was black). The one that got stolen by some cunt who probably had know idea what it meant to me.
I just emailed the guy about shipping it over here. If the cost is not massive then I think I'll bid about $900. Hmm maybe a $1000 with the poor state of the dollar.

I think unreasonable is simply inappropriate to describe the number of bikes on his myspace. They surely can't all be his! He only has 2 legs!
