It's funny you should say that. I've got a 12-27 on the rear and it really doesn't have a nice gear for me.
Mostly on small front ring but that often didn't 'quite' gear high enough (i like to spin but not THAT much).
When I moved to the big ring it's ever so slightly too high and doesn't like big-big(ish) ratios.
Never had this problem with 12-23! Hmmf! :)
