32 or 28 and Open Pro rims, radial on the front.
-
• #30
Open Pro are a bit plain looking, don't you think...? Or are they that good that it outweighs the appearance?
-
• #31
They're are very light rims, and quite cheap.. You can get them in black as well.

i got blue anodised ones they look real nice no deep v or any flashy just nice simple wheels but in BLUE

guys, I'm considering a new pair oh wheels too... how does CXP33 compare to open pros?
with miche primato hubs?
what do you all think?by the way i've been riding a 20 aero spoke aksium front wheel (with a 36 80's campy behind.. 20/36!) on my peugeot triathlon on my commutes and it does seem to hold up quite alright... i try my best to avoid potholes anyway...

aren't the open pros just the replacement for the cxp33?? either would build up a nice wheelset on miche hubs. might want to try goldtec for a bit more quality.
-

Open pro are benchmark road-racing rims whereas cxp33 are meant to provide a slight aero advantage. Open pros are some 50grams lighter than cxp33 per wheel.

thanks guys, didn't know open pros are here to replace CXP33... they're still being sold everywhere I really didn't realize.
sounds like they're really similar (for 100g vs aero i wouldn't really be able to tell the difference anyway) now it boils down to how they look on my bike really... maybe i'll start another thread when i've got some decent pics of my bike post it up here and have you guys help me decide what rims/colour looks good :) -

hmm i've been thinking about cxp33s for my next wheel build, with goldtec hubs. i'll have a look at the open pro's. as dicki said deep vs are flashy - too flashy for me to lock up all day outside.
i got my rear goldtec hub today (birthday present!) they are soooo nice. the bearings are so smooth compared to my old DMR ss hubs. just wish the front one woudl hurry up now...

28 radial, you must weigh less than 8 stone and have shock absorbers instead of elbows..

my mate says to me that 36 is the track standard due to the need for extra stiff wheels so if you want it to 'look' track it has to 36 holes
not fussed about the hubs being sealed or not I wasn't planing to take the Mercian out in the rain...;)

i think NJS standard is 36 and nothing else too. bet anyone into NJS stuff knew already.

Um, might somebody have pictures of a setup with 28 spokes radial in front and 32 spokes 3 cross in the back? Thinking of maybe doing that. I guess it wouldn't end up in tears even with 14 stone? Commuting, would be the task asked of the wheels.
-
• #43
they should be fine, unless you jump kerbs all day.

Thanks, man.

if you read the topic carefully, 28 vs. 36 spokes have a 3% difference.

What? Hippy was referring to aerodynamics...

What? Hippy was referring to aerodynamics...
And that's important for race commuting...

the biggest aero difference would be to use the drops.

32 is prob fine but how much extra weight are 4 spokes? Not much. So if you are hard on wheel swhy not go for 36?
Add the weight of 4 spokes and possibly 4 eyelets then subtract the weight of 4 hub holes and 4 rim holes.
Hmmmm, I say 36.

I say use 28, 32 or 36. and no radial on low flange hubs unless they are warrantied for it.
bontragium unfortunately!
