Crank bolts are generally spec'd to some rather large torque value, typically over 300 inch pounds (ie Campy's are specced around 312-324 inch/pounds), which is a lot of torque to generate.
You need either something very long (ie lots of leverage) or be reet well built to get close.
The chainring bolts on the other hand are dead easy to over torque.
