  • it wasn`t mine that crazy one, its from roberto..

changed the steam and the bars

  • Heres mine.

    More here.Builds Velospace

    Whitey

  • Looking good Mario. What brake have you got on there?

  • Build, what did you use to get the decals off??

  • Conan Build, what did you use to get the decals off??

A very sharp "NEW" razor blade, and a lot of patience. You have to be really gentle too much pressure and you will go through to the base coat. I then used a very fine abrasive paper to even it all up. It was then washed down with a soap based cleaner. I was going to seal it with a lacquer, but haven’t got round to it yet.

It’s easier than it sounds. It was really satisfying. Bit like peeling a potato.

(Always try a test spot in an inconspicuous place first).

  • ahh ok, might give that a go. Was gonna try the chemical route and burn the suckers off but seems a bit harsh maybe.

  • mario, thats a sweet ride.

and build, i like that flyer. looks nice without the decals.

  • photoben Looking good Mario. What brake have you got on there?

TEKTRO , cheap ones i think, they do the job...

  • My bike now:

The bike is much dirtier than this picture suggests. Much much much dirtier - in fact it still has greasy finger marks from when the new bottom bracket was fitted : ). I was going to take the decals off but I can't bring myself to do it! Next purchase will probably be a new seat. In blue maybe?

I'm well proud of this bike, as i'm not exactly experienced in the whole cycling malarky, and i've definitely never put a bike together before. Before i got this bike I hadn't really ridden in an urban environment at all, so getting a single speed and riding in london was a bit of a baptism of fire! I love it though. Planning more work when i go back to Newcastle for the summer, thinking of using it on a 140 mile trip over the pennines with some friends. Stress 'thinking' in that sentence. ;)

  • soon enough...i know it's alloy but i like stiff frames

  • wow,there some mad bikes!!

  • joe_b this is my benotto!
this is my first fixie and i got it today:)
never ridden one before but its got a flip flop if i decide to
ride the wheel. very pleased with it but hope to get it painted soon.
i want to put chopped flat bars on it or risers and just keep the front brake?
would there be any problems with that or anything i should take into consideration before doing it?
    thanks

    Alright mate.

Your bike it looking cool, do what you ewant with the bike but I would keep the break at least untill you can skid as esy as pie, but that it me, Irun a break.

Gears it's all about inches my man, most poepl like between 70 and 75 gear inches depending on the hills and how stronf they are use this to calculate your gear inches http://sheldonbrown.com/gears/ remember to change you wheel size

here are what sizes you can gain by using your two chain rings. !st nuber is with a 51 tooth chain ring 2nd is with a 39 tooth chain ring. Sprokets are cheaper than chainrings.

    Chain rings 51 39
    18 tooth sproket 74.5 56.9

    17 tooth sproket 78.8 60.3

    16 tooth sproket 83.8 64.1

    15 tooth sproket 89.4 68.3

    14 tooth sproket 95.7 73.2

  • I was going to take the decals off but I can't bring myself to do it! Next purchase will probably be a new seat. In blue maybe?

I'd take 'em all off except "Raleigh" and the seatpost until you have some new ones. The decals on the top tube aint so hot.

  • Umm.... I kinda like those little flashes of red. Little bit retro. Red ones goes faster of course. But do get rid of the top tube sticker.

Matching Blue saddle would be sweet.

  • Yeah I like the red stripes.... thing is all the stickers are pretty knackered - great big gashes out of most of them (but luckily not out of the paint - good old hard as nails raleigh finish!)

Will probably get rid of all of them once i'm settled back up north, then get some replacements. Top tube sticker was a mistake, I know! regretted it the instant I put it on.

    Cheers for the comments guys

  • asm good old hard as nails raleigh finish!

Know what you mean. My grandad's old Raleigh must be 30ish years old, and the paint is still strong!

  • FTC Just signed up, thought this would be a good enough place to start, hello everyone!
