They're alloy nipples, very light but not as strong as the brass ones...

There is a guy in a Melbourne bike shop (forgetting my past) who has a habit of cutting up black-spoked wheels and rebuilding them with silver spokes.

Sounds like he has somes issues that he needs to deal with.

Momentum I think some black nipples are brass - in fact the blog entry says these ones are brass so they should be plenty strong.

I made a mistake in my first blog entry and spec'd the nipples as alloy. The nipples are in fact black brass, which is my preference with a rim without eyelets. If you want to use alloy nipples in a rim without eyelets, you need to use nipple washers to prevent the heads from getting sheared off.
