I think there is a bit of a misconception about European food - France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany (as mentioned), Italy all have loads of take aways of all different kinds. The UK's food may have moved further from it's traditional roots but it's not true to say that there is no culture of food or history of agriculture in this country. Travel more than 30 miles from London and you'll find a lot of agriculture.
