  • From the post on BF:

Looks like I found the bike I need to get:

    Specialized Langster CHICAGO

    and the others:

    Langster New York

    Langster Boston

    Langster London

    Langster Seattle

    Langster

  • Something just looks weird about them, but I can't put my finger on it...

  • The left pedals are missing their cages. Except on the NYC one where pedals are not required, Fred Flintstone bike.

  • all photoshop jobbies

  • 31trum all photoshop jobbies

Nope, they look shit because they're screen-shotted out of a preview of the 2008 Specialized Catalogue, and that's a .pdf.

The thread on BF has a link to the catalogue, and you'll see that yup they're coming.

Available after November 2007 (at the earliest), so just in time for Christmas.

  • specialized got them photoshopped then, all the spokes, chainring etc, are all in the position, and i doubt sugino will make a blue mess ring

  • I hate Langsters - These just confirm it even more.... compact geometry!!! Aluminium!!! what next? Bikes themed by cities where Fixed Gear is cool?!?!? Oh...... It's just happened!

  • 31trum i doubt sugino will make a blue mess ring

    They do a 10spd one: http://www.suginoltd.co.jp/chainwheel_e.html

    They have the technology!!!

  • what is wrong with compact or semi-compact geometry?

  • On another note: Didn't Giant have a fixie available much the same as the Langster about 2-3 years ago? Hmm.. Maybe I'm thinking of an SS MTB?

  • MrSmith what is wrong with compact or semi-compact geometry?

LIghter, stiffer, more standover height.. :P

  • oops, i stand corrected, but nothing wrong with a langster..as long as you change the wheels, rigid ali fork etc...

  • Do like photoben and paint it. Then it doesn't look like everyone else's Langster. Simple.

  • well the london one looks like it was designed by ben sherman, but i like the look of the 'seattle'.

its all a bit much though.

  • hippy On another note: Didn't Giant have a fixie available much the same as the Langster about 2-3 years ago? Hmm.. Maybe I'm thinking of an SS MTB?

    the Bowery, i think

  • The London one looks sh1t (thats for you hippy) as.... i don't know. Why do we have to have the crap one?

  • rkn The London one looks sh1t (thats for you hippy) as.... i don't know. Why do we have to have the crap one?

Probably because of some prick in an office somewhere.

  • 31: Nah, it was before the Bowery. WTF is that name all about anyway?!

rkn: F u d< 1 n g cheers mate! :) Forget the London Langster.. just buy a Soma or something off ebay :)

  • eeehhhh [quote]rkn The London one looks sh1t (thats for you hippy) as.... i don't know. Why do we have to have the crap one?

i'd love to meet the survey group their marketing team got their hands on.

  • they were probably some 20 something graphic designers with a manga fetish and a membership card for the ICA. or washed up ex-messengers or perhaps students?

    :-)

  • I'd rather walk.

  • MrSmith they were probably some 20 something graphic designers with a manga fetish and a membership card for the ICA. or washed up ex-messengers or perhaps students?

    :-)

exactly the kind of thing i was thinking

  • The fact they've come up with these 6 is clearly in response to the current backlash against Langsters - "Too boring, not individual, bought by unimaginative chumps who want to pose outside coffee shops" etc.
So in that respect, the point has been missed completely, and will net the owners of these new "off-the-peg-bespoke-fixed-gear" bikes even less respect from the more purist fixed owners/community than the current ones out there.
But Specialized themselves will be fully aware of all of this - I don't think they particularly care who buys them or how they're used. The bikes will shift like hot cakes and they'll make a fat load of money out of it, all off the back of the fact that it's currently cool to pretend to be a courier.

Still, with all these new ones floating around, it might reduce some of my own Langster shame - "that's right - I'm dead old skool, me - straight outta 2005, this one..."
