stupidpony If a few cabbies get there knickers in a twist over a bit of gridlock caused by human powered vehicles once a month well that’s just an added bonus.
Pfff. I hate Critical Mass, I got stuck in a cab last night while they all pulled up outside Kings Cross and sat there with my friends watching the meter go up. Bloody Cyclist C*#ts :)
On a serious note, I think cyclists are actually winning the battle now. Every week another person I know decides to abandon public transport and get a bike. When I pull up at any traffic lights in the morning I'm surrounded by at least 10 other riders. Not like back in '92 when I first started riding in London and it really was a strange, solitary experience.

yeah that is so true, the road from oxford street down theobalds road past the duke is a bit like the peleton in the tour de france these days

elephant and castel at rush hour is a mini critical mass it seems
-
• #55
the mass last night was ok, good turnout and not too many troublemakers.

To give credit where it is due, I thought the cops were pretty cool about it (though I prefer not to have a police presence at all).
I am not a big fan of all the time spent not biking. The idea of going around squares to mass up was good, but simply stopping and yelling more bikes, less cars does not strike me as very effective, or fun (and I think call and response slogans have a certain herd-like quality to them).
Ride the bike, don't park it.

You rang?
Oh, figure of speech.
Err.. what he said. Bike lifts are fun and sh1t but don't really show how good cycling is as a mode of transport.

-
• #62

amsterdam ride WHEN WHEN
-

I'll be going along on the HH. I agree, there is too much standing about doing nothing. It does my legs in going slow in a high gear. I might get a special 'CM sprocket' the same size as my front.

It will be great fun, I'm down. We should all meet up and ride together.
Shouldn't worry about being arrested though.
The Police are aware of the waste of their time and resource arresting a cyclist considering the Judges at court would just throw out any case against someone riding their bicycle..
The only way you'll get in trouble is for gross drunkenness(Guilty your Honor.) or rising to the bait of an angry motorist/Police officer and participating in a scene.
If everyone treats it as a laugh and stays calm they cannot touch you for anything. -

MA3K Where can we all meet up? Should I bring a sign saying FGSS on it?
Somewhere in the middle of town - away from pubs so that we can actually get at least 10 minutes cycling in ;-) You have to get a sign!!

look for a bunch of people on fixed gear bikes all chatting happily that should be us
-
• #71
Jon, you're going along? If so... I'll be there too.
-
• #72
in that case look out for a white cannondale yellow bob jackson somewhere near the stone circle ( not as impressive as stonehenge but close ! )
-
• #73
the lady and myself will be there, i think she may come on the sat night ride as well if shes welcome?
-
• #74
Why ever not? I don't think we are a closed shop.
-
• #75
The more we can get to come, the better. It is about a 50 KM ride at an easy pace. And no, we wont be riding through any tunnels.
For those who haven't seen the proposed route:
30th Night Ride - 'The Bridges'
Haha, yeah I was there when he shouted that, then he proceeded to REALLY slam his door and leave his hand on the horn.
