-

-
• #6
do you know how much are they in London Fields??
-
• #7
Can't remember..... but a lot more expensive than on Parker. This was last November btw for both london fields and brixton but i cant see why they wouldn't have them.

I bought a whole Miche track groupset (inc. hubs) in Oz for $500AUD. That's £200. What are they here?
-
• #9
The hubs on Parker are the old model though.
-
• #10
to be honest im just after a cheap set of hubs, any surgestions???
-
• #11
harry rowland gave me a lecture about hubs, basicaly they're all the same they just carry different names and have different prices...he even told me which ones were the best to get ( i have a pair of those ) but cannot remember of course, ask @ bricklanbikes, they might know.
-
• #12
Sorry, but just how are formula hubs the same as campagnolo record?
-
• #13
ok don't get me wrong got a crap memory but the guy said that within a price range you could get certain hubs of the quality of let's say ambrosio or novatec and they would all be at the same level.
Above a certain price than it's another business.
Want cheap hubs? get novatec -
• #14
I would deffo go for the Miche ones though. Nice solid flanges and replaceble bearings. Might be slightly more expensive then the forza ones but a lot better.
-
• #15
Jos - do u think there is much difference?
Aidan - i reckon for 52 quid that isnt a bad deal, from what little i know the primato isnt a bad mid-range hub.

Mr Rowland\s philosofy is don't go too crazy on parts for a bike you're gonna use daily, in the rain, in the snow(salt),leave locked outside etc etc

i've got a pair of miche hubs. very pleased with them. look nice and super smooth sealed units. good for general riding if you're after high flange.
-
• #19
They look great but some have had issues with the cog carrier system. Not compatible with all cog or something.
Search bikeforums for details. -

Yeah, Iv'e got miche hubs, actually not wonderfully impressed. The axles aren't stainless so they rust, the locknuts worked their way loose (the hub was moving on the axle when I took the wheel off once), and they actually haven't stayed that smooth. Plus the italian threading is a mild annoyance, means it's not a good idea to chance cogs very often with ISO cogs, but if you're going to be changing gearing readily the ogo carrier system sounds useful

Stef Mr Rowland\s philosofy is don't go too crazy on parts for a bike you're gonna use daily, in the rain, in the snow(salt),leave locked outside etc etc
I agree on all that except the "use daily" bit!
I've experienced what happens to the Ambrosio/formula/whatever cheap hubs when used daily in all conditions, and that's why I've now got Goldtec. Because once you've replaced broken nuts, crappy bearings and axles it'll have ended up costing the same + all the hassle.

• #22
RPM, did you get the whole wheel built by goldtec?
I'm considering it but the prices for wheelbuilds are suspiciously cheap. I would love anyone's info on the quality of the build.
-
• #23
Rattelbag - i thought that as well and avoided for that reason. Around the time though i had only heard positive things about their wheelbuilds.
-

I bought a complete wheel from Goldtec 3 years ago. Haven't done anything good to it in all that time (e.g. replacing bearings or truing) and lots of bad things (although I'm pretty light on my gear). Still true (haven't had it in a stand, but it's fine in use so should be pretty true) and bombproof.
I'd recommend their builds.
Miche hubs are a bit of a pain for all the reasons rattlebag outlined. Bad quality tracknuts and lockrings which are italian threaded so the only good replacements are campy. How do you say $£? Cash money mofos.

i got a cheep wheel build, only £10, but im well impressed with it, aurp from this site did it, and even after mutipule crashes after bike polo the wheel is still true, and he tought me how to build, and was patinet with my general fuk upedness
