  • I used Velocity rims as my race wheels for at least 3 seasons of crit racing, training, commuting (my coach was all about specificity - so ride the ONE bike).
    I weigh 95kg+. I crash HARD. Most of the strength in wheels is down to the build and NOT the individual parts. Mine went out of true once when I hit a steel railing at 30kph+ on a street circuit - only slightly out, mind you. The guy who built my wheels, Mick from Croydon Cycleworks, was there and fixed them on the spot.
    I believe they are Australian-made rims (bet you lot don't want 'em now!) so they are actually cheaper than the Mavic options in Oz. I cannot fault them with my experience. Oh, they were 32H, laced to light American Classic hubs.
