  • TheBrick Dose it count for audax randonnee?

Are lycra shorts better than some normal shorts with these padded undershorts?

This butt cream stuff, are you ment to apply it beforehand kind of like some hard core e45 type cream?

Won't be an Audax unless it's a proper Audax event (which it isn't). As for shorts, I did a long ride (i.e. 300k) a few weeks ago in my Altura baggies with padded liners and I found them fine. You can get some skimpy lycra and it's probably more comfortable, but you will survive fine without. As for butt cream, I've never got close to trying that sort of thing.

  • Alright.. whip 'em out peeps.. who's got the brightest, mostest powerfulest lighty thing of them ALLLLL?!?!?!?!

    Prepare to be wheelsucked. :P

  • I think it's me, unless someone has the double halide version (and wants to half their battery love).

The thing about going fast downhill in the dark, is that the light gives you confidence to do it. Came off of Ditchling Beacon at 40mph in the dead of night, it was awesome. I wouldn't have gone above 25mph if it wasn't for the light.

I'm not sure how a wheel hugger will manage a fast downhill unless you can ride side by side safely.

  • I thought the DD was pretty flat? A 'sprinter's stage' if you will?

  • It is pretty flat. Rolling flatlands I'd call it... gently rolling at a few points, mostly flat as a pancake.

1,300m gain over 110 miles... pretty damn flat.

  • Like home..

(I'm getting all Aussie at the mo' coz I'm booking tickets for an xmas trip back - first return in 2years)

  • It's a great ride on fixed :) The hills are around the Castle Headingham area and a fast descent in to Sudbury, "Roberto how the F**k did you do that brakeless "? the rest is either flat or rolling .

Last year was a bit of a downer at the finish because of the guy that got knocked off near the start, found out later he had been killed.

There will be a big crowd from ACF doing it again and Charlotte might organise a coach and van again. It costs a bit more than Greenwich cyclists one but it turns up earlier and you get bubble wrap to protect your bike :)

  • Doh, I've already booked the Southwark coach.

  • who / what is AFC?

  • TheBrick who / what is AFC?

    Another Cycling Forum:

Edit: I'm not sure which section you'd find the info about this, but Velo Fixe would probably be a good place to ask.

  • AFC = Arsenal Footbal Club

  • So how many people are doing this?

What method of getting back do people think is the best?

I think I will book my coach today to get the early bird price but want to check if there is some ggod reason not to use this coach?

  • i was thinking of getting the train but haven't looked into it yet.

  • Same as Southend, here's a list of people doing DD, add your name to the list:

    hippy
    Roberto?
    velocity boy?

I've booked the coach back. Some people don't like waiting for it so they've got train tix.

I was just reading about the coach vs train, although I don't think I will be doing it in record time (although some bloke down the John Snow did tell me that real riders would do do it in 2.5 -3 hr, I just agreed) I am not sure I fancy waiting around until one to leave, I would rather get down the pub!

I have never had to take a bike on a train (well not since I was 16) hassel?

40mph average speed? Um.. Lance couldn't do that in daylight let alone overnight.

  • That was why I was so impressed, I did say that was very fast and he said it was quite fast, geared but fast for fixed.

  • Are you sure he wasn't talking about a Dulwich Dynamo??

  • Yes, he was very drunk, and speaking alot of cr@p I could bearly get a word in edge ways he was on a rant. I just nodded and looked pritty. He was not ready to listen.

  • TheBrick I have never had to take a bike on a train (well not since I was 16) hassel?

Depends on distance, local suburban trains are fine you can just stick a bike in there anywhere.

Regional trains which i imagine London to Dunwich would be have limited bike space, some companies try to make you book it I think... but I have never taken a bike further than Woking on a train so have no idea.

    Hovis Brown?

  • I am so fucking bummed about the DD this year. I had been planning to do it since about xmas and drummed up quite a lot of mates to do it as well. Then, stupid bloody friends of mine decide to get married in Cambridge on the day of the ride.

I am still wondering if getting pissed at the wedding and then trying to ride from Cambridge to Dunwich, hoping to intersect you lot is possible. I think it may be, but not advisable....

  • In fact this stuff keeps happening - I really wanted to do the London - Brighton and the the Southend jaunts as well but have been thwarted by a busy lifestyle every time. Dammit.

  • Same as you mate.

  • A fast cyclist is still going to take 5 hours. It's 120 miles, anything below 8 hours is pretty fecking good. Just doing it is a source of pride. It doesn't require dumb claims to be able to do it in 2.5 hours, it's an awesome thing to do whatever speed you go.
